Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Recruitment, Admissions and Awards (DRAA), the International
Recruitment & Admissions Manager represents the University to secondary school students, parents, and,
with greater focus, guidance counsellors, applicant representatives (agents), and other influencers, on
international recruitment and admissions in a highly competitive international market. This leadership
position is responsible for the development and implementation of admissions policies, with regard to
agent management and market development, to attract applicants and yield high-caliber students to
Mount Allison University degree programs. This position also assists with development, implementation,
and assessment of international recruitment markets, and design and execution of international
recruitment activities in consultation with the DRAA.

The incumbent serves as the primary institutional expert in international admissions and, as such, requires
comprehensive knowledge and understanding of international educational systems, English language
proficiency testing standards, as well as issues related to detection of documentation fraud. They counsel
students and agents on the admission process and the University in general, assess students for admission
to the University and for entrance scholarships, prepare related reports, and assist with associated
programs and materials. Extensive travel is required as well as regular presentations to train agents,
attend networking events and present at conferences on behalf of the university.

Hours of Work: This is a full-time continuing position beginning in November, 2019, subject to
budgetary approval.

Position Description


International Recruitment

  • Plan, co-ordinate, and implement international recruitment activities in order to meet and surpass
specific new incoming applicant and registrant goals for Mount Allison’s degree programs

  • Track leads/relationships through CRM system and other marketing tools throughout the client
relationship cycle and reports progress

  • Plan, conduct, and analyze international market research; remain current with developing trends
and initiatives in strategic enrolment

  • Liaise with faculty to coordinate recruiting activities with faculty travel
  • Develop and implement appropriate international market development strategies
  • Produce and maintain evidence-based market research reports for each geographic area under
their supervision to share internally

  • Develop and maintain knowledge regarding all Mount Allison programs, admission requirements,
and other relevant information to effectively represent the University internationally

  • Keep abreast of admission requirements and programs across faculties and degree programs,
including changes to degree requirements, academic and other university regulations

  • Contribute to the development and updating of international recruitment materials
  • Provide training to other recruitment staff on international educational systems and admission
  • Understand factors that impact student mobility: political, visa requirements, economic, social,
environmental factors and share useful insights with the recruitment team
  • Plan recruitment and advocate for the development of new international recruitment initiatives
that will lead to alternate sources of revenue for the university
  • Produce reports on recruitment activities
Assessment of Applications to Undergraduate Programs

  • Respond to inquiries providing in-depth knowledge of admission policies and practices, as well as
a general working knowledge of academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs, current
events and issues, and curriculum and grading systems in other universities and colleges

  • Advise prospective students and school guidance counselors on the university application process
and international admission requirements, and provide specific feedback as required on applicants
who do not qualify for admission

  • Evaluate international applicants’ academic credentials and eligibility for admission to the
university, ensuring that applicants are assessed promptly and accurately

  • Update and maintain accurate data for admissions decisions
  • Ensure that the University’s international admission letters contain appropriate country-specific
information related to education and visa requirements
  • Deal with situations where applicants are believed to have submitted false information or
documents and train other recruitment and admission staff on document fraud detection
  • Prepare and provide material and training to other admissions staff on international admission
requirements and education systems
  • Assess admissions trends for specific international markets
  • Identify and implement in consultation with the DRAA opportunities for improvement in
international admissions policies, processes and data management based on a regular review of
educational systems, proposed and enacted changes in secondary and post-secondary education
across Canada, the United States and internationally

Agent Relations
  • Serve as Mount Allison’s representative for agents, ministry and government officials, English
language training partners, international educators, parents, and prospective students
  • Recruit, provide direction to and assess performance of all agents to ensure ongoing effectiveness
in their role
  • Develop communication and tracking practices to leverage Ellucian Recruit agent module to
ensure maximum ROI on each partnership
  • Identify, explore, assess and establish new opportunities for recruitment and partnerships, build
and maintain relationships with key international partners, agents, and schools in international
markets through regular in-person, phone, and electronic communication to ensure that Mount
Allison achieves and maintains preferred partner status

  • In conjunction with Marketing/Communication department develop and deliver marketing
material to support the operations of agents in target markets

  • Recommend and negotiate new and renewed contracts with agents and English language training
partners in consultation with the DRAA

  • Contribute to regular evaluation of partner effectiveness and activity levels in key markets;
develop strategies to increase the recruitment level of less active agents and English language

training partners; make recommendations to the DRAA regarding possible termination of
contracts for those agents and partners who are not performing at a satisfactory level or who are
not meeting institutional objectives

  • In consultation with the Registrar’s Office Coordinator, compile and maintain financial statistics
regarding the relative cost of maintaining each agent relationship, including commission fee
payment amounts, material shipping costs, and other costs associated with visiting agents or
receiving agents for site visits

B. Qualifications

  • A university degree with preference given to graduates of Mount Allison; Masters Degree in
Higher Education, Marketing, Public Relations or Business Administration is an asset
  • A minimum of at least three to five years of experience in a post-secondary environment in
admissions, public relations, marketing, or other related field developing and implementing
strategy, conducting market research, making presentations, and successfully promoting services

  • A minimum of three years of professional experience with, and detailed knowledge of, Canadian
and American, as well as a range of international education systems

  • Proven project management skills across cultures, including implementation, tracking, reporting,
analysis and budget management

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong intercultural sensitivity and cross-
cultural communication skills and ability to cultivate and build lasting professional relationships
and networks

  • Established track record of managing professional staff, with experience in encouraging a
positive workplace culture and ability to cultivate talent within the organization

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills within the framework of University policy,
along with professional customer service ethic

  • Ability to assess student fit for Mount Allison and advise accordingly
  • Ability to assess the value of recruitment markets and make decisions within the available budget
  • Ability to assess content to be posted on international websites for cultural appropriateness
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, and work under pressure, meet deadlines, and function at a high
level with minimal direct supervision while showing good judgement
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Polished presentation skills and strong technical/multimedia skills
  • Proficiency with computer applications in Microsoft Office, e-mail, presentation software, and a
familiarity with student information systems (experience with Ellucian Recruit and Colleague

  • First-hand experience at Mount Allison as a current or former member of the university
community and a positive high-energy approach to sharing that experience with others

  • Ability to work flexible, irregular hours including weekends, and ability and willingness to travel

  • Experience with international travel for professional purposes
  • A valid driver’s license and a valid passport
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages; ability to communicate in other languages
would be an asset
