Director of Communications & Strategic Initiatives will lead and oversee the Global Business Technology Communications, Culture & Development function, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
In this role you will be responsible for developing and implementing a compelling narrative, ongoing communications strategies, and impactful communications plans in Canada and the Pacific Alliance countries (Mexico, Peru, Chile and Colombia). You will lead complex cross-functional initiatives and work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to increase connection to Bank, business, IT&S and Tech strategies and priorities.
You will need to provide ongoing strategic communication support to the Global Chief Information Officer and other senior executives within Global Business Technology in the implementation of their business strategies and initiatives. This includes a lead role in the creative development, project management and oversight of multiple executive and corporate communications initiatives of significant complexity.

Lead and design creative, robust, multimedia, strategic communications plan to build an integrated communications culture and development function for Scotiabank’s Global Business Technology group
Participate in executive leadership forums – both operational and strategic in nature – and align communications and culture strategies with business goals; partner with key stakeholders to progress Scotiabank’s technology transformation priorities
Communicate the Global Business Technology Transformation strategy and its ongoing execution to key audiences.
Enhance the profile of leaders and communicate the Bank’s priorities and partnerships to enhance the reputation of the Bank and position the Bank as a global digital banking leader in not only digital banking, but customer-driven software development and the overall digital talent market
Develop and execute proactive external communication strategy and message development, coaching and advising leaders, writing, production, and distribution of messages.
Ensure appropriate coordination and alignment to connect Global Business Technology initiatives with the broader communications ecosystem of the Bank, internally and externally
Facilitate a culture of open and honest communication by actively participating in and contributing to the generation of new ideas and approaches and build effective working relationships with key partners within and beyond Digital Banking, Global Communication, Finance, Operations, Compliance, HR, Marketing, and others.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
You’re a communications expert who can work independently and have solid understanding of the current and prospective media and social media environment in which the Bank operates and key emerging issues of strategic importance to the Bank and its business objectives
You’re current on communication trends, best practices in strategy development and ability to adapt these to the strategic planning process
You have both an excellent understanding of and a passion for digital and technology industry trends (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, etc.) as well as the FinTech space in particular
You have 8+ years of experience in digital/technology communications, corporate communications, marketing communications and/or public relations
You have significant experience driving communications strategies across traditional and emerging communication platforms including social media
You have Strong leadership, presentation, writing skills and you’re willing to roll up your sleeves and get the work done
University Degree / post-graduate education in Communication/Public Relations. Accredited Business Communicators, IABC or CPRS, Canadian Public Relations Society desired
