We are currently looking to add a Senior Benefits & Disability Specialist who is equally passionate about serving the community and achieving operational success alongside our dedicated and loyal employees. The Senior Benefits & Disability Specialist is responsible for the effective administration of our National benefit programs, including RRSP/pension programs, wellness program and all group insurance programs such as health, dental and disability across Canada Cartage. This role would be involved in the management of enrolments, renewals and the delivery of benefits to employees as well as the liaison for external vendors and internal clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Administration of group insurance benefits programs (including extended health, dental, Employee Assistance, , life insurance, AD&D, optional life, STD, LTD, etc.) and retirement savings plans (including RPP and RRSP)
Enrolling employees and making changes; keeping information updated in all systems.
Participating in benefit plan projects, conducting research and analysis relating to plan design issues, gathering feedback from plan members and identifying and implementing process improvements
Ensuring billings are accurate and the plans are set up accurately with the providers and payroll; reconciling as necessary.
Assessing and correcting: bills vs rates, premiums deducted vs enrolments, employment status vs enrolment, coverage level vs years of service/age
Understand, execute, follow up on: rate changes, vendor changes, enhancements
Coordinating leave-of-absences, including administering bereavement pay, arranging/tracking benefit premiums and following up on return to work.
Managing benefit plans for members during leave of absences
Coordinating short term disability payments; working with our third party administrator to ensure STD benefits are administered accurately and in a timely manner.
Communicating information to members and external providers relating to key issues pertaining to the benefit plans
Answering employee inquiries as necessary
Development of monthly reports for HR department and Executive team
Ensure accountability of insurance broker, vendors, payroll
Advise or seek advice on complex benefits issues
Continually strives to improve work processes, methods, environment, customer service, and personal and team performance.
Other duties as required.
Working Experience, Education and Skills:
4-7 years of pension or benefits experience.
Exposure to the financial services industry would be considered an asset.
Post-secondary education in a business-related discipline, preferably in Human Resources, with enrollment in, or completion of, the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) program.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
Excellent interpersonal & communication skills are essential as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity due to the nature of the information and client base.
Excellent relationship management skills in order to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority
Customer focused with a positive, collaborative attitude
Bilingual (English/French) would be considered an asset
