Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational

independent school, serving over 750 students from preschool through to Grade 12. CFIS develops

Purpose of Position:
The purpose of the position of Marketing Communications Associate is to execute the school’s

strategic marketing communications plan as directed by the Director of Enrolment & Marketing

Communications, and to serve as the school’s content specialist, creating and communicating

compelling stories about CFIS for both digital and print media. The primary goals of this position

1. Monitoring CFIS’s brand image on various digital channels;
2. Producing reports for CFIS’s digital marketing efforts, to help inform future strategies; and
3. Creating content for both digital and print media.

The Marketing Communications Associate reports to the Director of Enrolment & Marketing

Communications and works collaboratively with the admissions and development staff to help

meet the school’s recruitment, re-recruitment, and fundraising goals. This individual works with a

broad range of administrative colleagues, faculty, students, alumni families, and parents. The

successful candidate is full-time member of our team, is on-site daily and is an integral part of

daily school life to ensure the CFIS story is told through images, video, print and digital channels.

a content strategy for all school-wide communications that aligns with CFIS’s strategic

enrolment, marketing communications, and development plans;

  • Ensures consistency of tone and voice across all school-wide communications;
  • With the guidance from the Director of Enrolment & Marketing Communications,
develops a well-written and dynamic web presence, including frequent news and blog

posts, event updates, and multimedia content;

  • Serves as the school’s webmaster, ensuring that the website is up-to-date and free of

  • Serves as the liaison with the school’s website provider, addressing support issues and
keeping campus users informed of software updates and changes;

  • Monitors social media and school review sites, providing updates to the Director of
Enrolment & Marketing Communications as needed;

  • Produces monthly reports for the following: website page and content analytics, search
engine rankings and keyword performance, and social media analytics;

  • Serves as the school’s primary photographer and videographer, capturing CFIS events
and activities and taking pictures and/or video at daytime events, and some evening and

weekend events;

  • Maintains CFIS’s digital photo and video archives;
  • In concert with the Director of Enrolment & Marketing Communications, creates and
carries out a defined social media strategy to address each of CFIS’s channels;

  • Manages all aspects of the school’s e-communications, including information collection,
design, copy editing, dissemination, and list hygiene; and

  • Serves as a primary writer and editor for all school-wide communications, including, but
not limited to:
o The CFIS blog

o Notre Monde


o Monthly admissions e-newsletters

o CFIS solicitations and collateral fundraising materials.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; journalism, marketing, communication, or similar major

  • Experience managing social media content in a business/professional role, including but
not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and blogs;

  • Strong working knowledge of digital cameras and photo and video editing software such
as InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, iMovie, or Final Cut Pro;

  • Superior writing and editing skills with a strong attention to detail; accuracy a must;
  • Experience in writing for multiple media formats including print, websites, blogs;
  • Strong working knowledge of AP and/or Chicago style guidelines;
  • Prior experience working in a private-independent school or other non-profit preferred;
  • Experience managing website content preferred;
  • Graphic design skills a plus; and
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are fluently bilingual (French and English).
