SickKids, Canada’s largest paediatric academic health sciences centre, is driven, every day, by a mission to improve the health of children by providing the best in family-centered care, creating groundbreaking scientific and clinical advancements and training the next generation of experts in child health. With passionate and dedicated staff (over 2400), outstanding infrastructure (a brand new, $400 million, state-of-the-art facility), stable funding ($285 million in 2019-2020), and unparalleled community and philanthropic support through SickKids Foundation, SickKids Research Institute is well-placed to build on the inspiration of the children it serves.
Research excellence, in all its forms and applications, has always been and will continue to be a key driver in advancing SickKids vision: Healthier Children. A Better World. For over 140 years, SickKids researchers, alongside peers in education and clinical practice, have led the way in discovery and innovation and in improving the care for kids in Canada and around the globe. SickKids is currently ranked #2 amongst Canada’s top research hospitals, and #1 for research intensity.
In 2013, the Research Institute (RI) moved into its new home in The Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning. The Centre is a place unlike any other, where world-leading researchers, clinicians and learners congregate and share ideas and where research excellence, collaboration and the translation of scientific advancement, from bench to bedside, can flourish. In many ways, the Centre is testament to SickKids’ notable, past, present and future achievements.
