The Alberta Labour Relations Board is the independent and impartial tribunal responsible for the day-to-day application and interpretation of Alberta's labour laws.
Are you looking to play an important role in the fair and equitable application of Alberta's collective bargaining laws? A diverse and challenging opportunity exists for a Legal Counsel with the Alberta Labour Relations Board.
Based in Edmonton and reporting to the Chair, the Legal Counsel represents the Board in legal proceedings, and manages the Board's legal advisory and legal services.
As Legal Counsel you will act as counsel to the Board by reviewing case specific issues and preparing legal advice and opinions for the Chair, Vice-Chairs, Senior Management Team, Board staff and members. You will represent the Board in court on judicial review applications and participate as a member of the Senior Management Team responsible for the administration of the Board. This position also handles 3rd party information requests under FOIP and related legislation and interacts with media on high profile labour relations disputes.
Candidates must possess superior communication skills and strong research and analytical skills. Excellent writing skills are required to produce well-thought out material including legal opinions, head-notes, policies, procedures and other written documentation in a timely manner. You have the ability to educate and are self-driven, able to take the initiative to address issues or organizational requirements as they arise. The ability to work independently and as a team member is required. Some experience presenting judicial review applications in court is preferred.

LL.B. and membership in the Law Society of Alberta. Legal practitioner with a minimum of 4 years legal experience in a variety of areas including Civil, Constitutional, Employment, Contract and Administrative Law. Sound knowledge of law relating to labour relations and some experience in presenting cases before the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench and Alberta Court of Appeal.
Legal Counsel 2:
4 years to 13 years of related experience is required ($4,391.03 - $5,600.88 bi-weekly)
Legal Counsel 3:
More than 11 years of related experience is required ($5,535.55 - $6,467.12 bi-weekly)
