We are currently accepting applications for a Junior Legal Assistant. This is a full-time entry level position with opportunities for advancement.

Our Criminal Law Firm is seeking support staff to assist with front desk/reception and office duties, while being trained as a legal assistant. Successful applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic, the ability to work under pressure, strong organizational skills and a high degree of professionalism.

We are a fast-paced Law Firm that values punctuality, attendance, high energy, the ability to prioritize and exceptional organizational skills. Relevant education or experience within an office, customer service or the legal field and familiarity with court documents are considered an asset. We are looking for the right personality and fit, and will train you in this area if you have passion to work in the legal field and have the right qualities and skills. Please note, this role can be challenging as we are a bustling firm and require the ability to swiftly transition between tasks, while prioritizing incoming projects without supervision. We will not consider candidates looking for unpaid work other than practicums arranged through an accredited post-secondary institution nor will we consider those looking for short term temporary employment.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Answering multiple phone lines in a friendly and professional manner, redirecting and taking messages efficiently and accurately;
  • Forwarding phone, e-mail and fax inquiries;
  • Assisting lawyers and senior legal assistants as needed including but not limited to: file preparation, client meetings and client follow-up;
  • Greeting guests/couriers/clients;
  • Filing/organizing/photocopying of files;
  • Preparing documents for pick-up and deliveries;
  • Ordering and maintaining office supplies/inventory;
  • Overseeing the firm’s scheduling program and upkeep of the board room for client meetings; and
  • Administrative, clerical work as required as well as troubleshooting complications as they arise.

Requirements

  • Must be able to both handle a fast-paced, high-stress environment and be proactive/take initiative during down time;
  • Demonstrate professionalism, maturity and judgment in handling confidential, highly sensitive information;
  • Possess exceptional telephone and interpersonal skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to manage a variety of tasks through prioritization and administrative skills with an acute attention to detail; and
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office.
