The Blood and Marrow Transplant – Immune Effector Cell Program seeks to identify a Physician Assistant to join our vibrant team to provide outstanding oncology care to patients with cancer. The PA joining the team would participate in the day to day management of patients on an inpatient or outpatient basis and assist in the management of side effects in close collaboration with staff physicians, oncology fellows, nurses and other support personnel.
The PA will be based at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and function within DMOH and provide patient care in a team setting, both in ambulatory clinics and the inpatient unit. The PA will provide patient assessments, investigations, symptom management, and follow up care for select high volume services within DMOH, for both newly diagnosed oncology patients, and those undergoing continuing treatment.
The PA will assist the attending staff in the inpatient management of our inpatient units, provide symptom management and discharge planning. The PA will have the opportunity to join one or more of our service areas to focus on improving and enhancing the access to care, the quality of care, and therapy related symptom management for patients undergoing systemic treatment. The PA will be offered training and educational opportunities both at orientation and also at an ongoing basis, and will be expected to develop their potential as a leader and teacher in DMOH. There is also potential for involvement in many of the research clinical trials available onsite.
Principal responsibilities include utilizing and demonstrating a theoretical knowledge and advanced level of clinical competence and excellence in caring for DMOH patients. This involves collecting and interpreting data about the health of patients, symptom management, developing a medical diagnosis and management plan – in a team environment. The PA will play a vital role on the interprofessional team and will have quality improvement, research and administrative responsibilities. There will also be opportunities to participate in policy or clinical pathway development as well as education and professional development. The PA will interact with other team members including staff medical oncologists, other trainees (residents and fellows), nurses, and other clinical and allied health staff both within DMOH and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The PA will perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or eligible to be certified by PACCC
Eligible to work in Canada/Ontario
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
Proficient and appropriate use of diagnostic and procedural skills
Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
