Successfully leads the management of project-related activities of multiple teams/groups in Project Management (PM). Leads the development of infrastructures and provides leadership in establishing client relationships. As a member of the management team, supports the management of the Project Management department and the Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS) business.
Unit Management (50%)
Lead management of a PDS Unit. Includes oversight of day-to-day work and communication to
Manage revenue stream of the Unit including Sales Order Registry (SOR) reporting accuracy and forecasting.
Lead the development of infrastructures in PM to ensure efficient execution of projects and all documentation is generated efficiently and in accordance with the required quality standards.
Periodically review PM organizational chart; if necessary recommend changes to meet Unit objectives and career development needs.
Work with the site to streamline PDS business and prioritize PDS site business needs
People Management (20%)
Develop and maintain infrastructure for setting and monitoring performance objectives and career development plans for PM staff.
Assign PMs to appropriate projects. Ensure coaching is implemented where needed.
Selects, develops and evaluates staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Works with and advises staff on administrative policies and procedures
Project Management (30%)
Lead scientific/technical discussions during meetings with prospect clients; match PM capabilities with prospect client needs where possible; ensure prospect clients are aware of PM capabilities where relevant.
Maintain working relationships and scientific/technical dialogue between PM and established clients.
Managing day-to-day operations of the project management group
Coaching and developing project managers
Developing processes for smooth execution of PDS projects
Meeting revenue targets and managing project management costs
Communicating project status for site projects to stakeholders
Awareness of key project issues, risks and successes for the Unit. Able to effectively outline these to stakeholders and determine corrective actions when required.
Managing resource requirements.
Managing expectations of clients for PDS projects within the Unit.
Estimating PDS monthly revenues for the Unit.
Share responsibilities with other PDS management; provide technical direction and leadership to staff in connection with current projects; within the team, authority to move staff to ensure projects run smoothly; can recommend role changes as necessary. Hiring of R&D Supervisors, Project Managers and Administrative Staff.
Function independently, with support from the Senior Manager, Program Management
Internal: PDS, Operations and Quality Assurance (QA) management, Senior Leadership Team
External: Clients, Business Development Executives
Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Masters of Science (M.Sc.) or Doctorate (Ph.D.).
Minimum 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience with 5+ in Project Management
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
5+ years of pharmaceutical product development or product transfer experience.
5+ years of project management experience.
5+ years of contract management experience.
People management experience (Minimum 5 years managing direct reports).
Well organized and detail oriented.
Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks across a portfolio of projects.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to motivate and lead a unit.
Proven client interface experience and strong negotiating skills.
Experience in organizational development.
Demonstrated commitment to our fundamental 4i principles.
Proficiency in the English Language.
Little physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operations including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration.
