The Salvation Army Gemma House provides therapeutic group care for youth aged 12 to 15. Gemma House is seeking a competent and experienced Program Coordinator with skills in program management and human resources. The Program Coordinator undertakes a variety of administrative and program management tasks. The successful candidate will have proven leadership skills; maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality; be a critical thinker, problem solver and active listener. In addition, the applicant will have excellent time management skills, organizational skills and be detail oriented. Shift work is required. On-call on a rotating basis.

Planning and coordination of programming and activities
Ensure implementation of policies and procedures
Ensures implementation and the provision of the case management system including intakes, discharges, monthly reviews, youth appointments, passes and extracurricular activities, liaising and establishing treatment plans with Ministry of Social Services workers and use of approved crisis intervention techniques
Assists in building and maintaining positive relations with the team and external parties
Provides statistical and evaluative information to management and funders
Maintains proper records for the program, writes reports and provides information on program outcomes and the progress of each resident
Monitors and ensures staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards and prepares, submits and acts on incident reports; identifies proactive safety measures to the Executive Director based on needs and concerns
Assists with maintenance, security and upkeep of the building and grounds
Training and supervision of up to 20 full-time, part-time and casual youth workers, as well as Practicum Students
Schedules and organizes meetings and maintains the agenda
Participates in hiring, orientating, training, evaluating and scheduling of staff in accordance to contracts and residential standards
Provides Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training at regular intervals (training provided)
Provides after hours on-call support on a rotating basis
Acts as a front line youth worker as needed
Provides back up support for reception (answers phones, doors, etc. as needed)
Support the growth and development of the program

Minimum Education Level Attained:
Undergraduate degree in the social sciences, human services or social work

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:
Valid driver’s license
CPR 1st Aid (C)
TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) - training will be provided if necessary
Food Safe

Minimum Prior Related Experience:
One to three years of prior related experience including experience in a social service setting, supervision, budgeting and working with youth in need of protection

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:
Energetic with the ability to lead and participate in physical activities (sports, hiking, walking, climbing stairs, etc.)
Teach and participate in approved physical restraints
Assisting residents with household chores

Concentration Required:
The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, multitasking

Responsibility for Financial Resources:
Responsible for programming funds, resident allowances and their safe keeping. Provides input into the departmental budget

Responsibility for Human Resources:
Supervises up to 20 full, part-time and casual youth workers and practicum students
Provides direction and checks results
