EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION WORKER

Title: Early Childhood Education Worker

Program: Family Literacy Program

Nature: Part-time (17.5 hours per week)

Number of Positions: 1

Salary: $20.60 per hour

Location: Surrey, BC

About the Position:

Supports the Language Instructor and Family Support Worker to organize and implement developmentally appropriate activities and lessons for families with young children.

Reports to: Outreach Services Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate and stimulating ECE program for families, in partnership with, and with the guidance and support of, the Language Instructor, Family Support Worker and Settlement Coordinator
  • Obtains feedback and participates in evaluating group effectiveness, materials presented, and facilitation and support services. Reports any difficulties to direct supervisor and collaborates with the support group team to reflectively make suggestions regarding program modifications
  • Maintains attendance list and other administrative paperwork
  • Organizes the provision of nutritious snacks
  • Ensures equipment in the facility is well maintained and safe at all times; remains up-to-date on emergency procedures and regulations
  • Attends staff/team meetings and participates in ongoing professional development
  • Maintains a positive and supportive relationship with parents, staff and community partners
  • Communicates effectively with supervisor and other staff

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Licensed B. C. Early Childhood Educator to work with children aged 0-5 years
  • Certified First Aider, with specialization in Emergency Child-Care
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the ECE field
  • Experience working with children of different ages and families with extra support needs

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of age–appropriate activities and developmental needs of toddlers and pre-school children
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse staff team
  • Knowledge of policies surrounding disclosures of family violence
  • Good organization, time management and interpersonal skills and administratively responsible
  • Ability to work independently and in tandem with other team members
  • Computer, email and internet literate
  • Fluent in English, second language an asset

Other Requirements:

  • Clear criminal record check required
