GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Working under general direction from the Production Supervisor, the Set-up Technician is responsible for the set-up and operation of injection and blow-molding machines throughout the plant. The Set-up Technician also participates in recommending improvements for quick tool changes, and in implementing SMED.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare for following shift’s mould and tool changeovers
  • Report any damage to tools, and coordinate repairs
  • Conduct minor machine repairs, including but not limited to heater bands and thermocouples
  • Assist with the set-up of post-moulding equipment when required
  • Change end of arm tooling as required
  • Implement and maintain 5S within the department
  • Participate in Kaizen/SMED events
  • Conduct general maintenance of all tools, and ensure safety throughout the plant
  • Perform other duties as required

ATTRIBUTES

  • Good knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within mold making
  • Able to read, and communicate verbally and in writing in the English language
  • Able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Able to troubleshoot with a sense of urgency
  • Must be mechanically inclined, with strong attention to details
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, time management and documentation skills
  • Proven interpersonal skills and team orientated with the ability to work within a diverse workplace

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an injection and/or blow-molding plastics manufacturing environment
  • Requires a high school diploma
  • Must have a valid Forklift Operator’s license
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and highly changing environment with limited supervision

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work conditions are consistent with a manufacturing plant environment. The Set-up Technician requires a moderate degree of physical fitness, as the role requires him/her to lift and/or move up to 55 lbs. He/she must also be able to work near moving mechanical machinery, and must be able to work in an environment with high noise levels (hearing protection required).

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $28.20 /hour
