Shared Health is recruiting for the permanent full-time position of Surgical Pathology Assistant (PA) to be based in Shared Health’s Pathology Laboratory at Health Sciences Centre (HSC). Although the position will be based at HSC, the successful applicant will be required to provide coverage at other Shared Health pathology sites.

Under the general direction of the Charge Technologist and the Medical Site Manager (Pathologist), this position is responsible for the reception, gross description and dissection of surgical tissue specimens as well as selecting and preparing tissue specimens for processing in preparation for microscopic diagnosis. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties, as assigned, where such duties may include mentoring and assisting with training of new staff and students. As this is a floating position, the incumbent will also be responsible to the Charge Technologist and Senior Pathologist Assistant in the area which they are working.

Interested applicants must have the following qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Master’s Program (MSc) or equivalent.
Member of the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP-ACP) or able to attain membership.
3-5 years recent experience as a Pathologist’s Assistant (preferred).
Extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
General knowledge of medical disease processes.
Ability to gross a variety of complex surgical specimens.
Adheres to all personal safety and safety of others.
Knowledge of voice dictation systems e.g. Dragon Software.
Excellent organizational skills with flexibility and adaptability.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office software).
A valid driver’s license may be a condition of employment for this position, at the sole discretion of the Employer.

Anticipated Shifts: Days/Evenings including Weekends; 38.75 hours weekly; 7.75-hour shifts
Salary: $33.532 – $41.883 per hour, as per MAHCP contract
