Arch Biopartners Inc. is seeking candidates for the position of Research and Development Scientist.

Duration: One year with potential for extension pending availability of funding.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $75,000 CAD/yr.

Job Description: Arch Biopartners Inc., with laboratories based at the University of Calgary, is accepting applications for a full-time position for a R&D Scientist with specialization in protein biochemistry and molecular biology to support development of the Metablok (LSALT) program. The successful candidate will be working in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel A. Muruve, Chief Scientific Officer and Professor at the University of Calgary. Research activities will be conducted in the development of the LSALT peptide, a novel anti-inflammatory molecule designed to target acute kidney injury and other pro-inflammatory diseases. A variety of molecular, biochemical and cellular approaches are employed using cell culture as well as in vivo mousemodels, HPLC, mass spectrometry and other protein-based techniques.

The responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Plan and implement experiments for studying protein structure and interactions of LSALT and its receptors
  • Hands-on experimentation and generation of high-quality data
  • Develop innovative methods and/or novel applications of existing methods
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, research proposals, and other technical documents
  • Establish and maintain accurate electronic and paper records regarding laboratory research
  • Consult on research projects with third-party contract research organizations (CROs)

Qualifications/Expertise Required: The ideal candidate will be a Ph.D. graduate in cell and molecular biology with expertise in protein/peptide analysis.

In addition, the individual should have:

  • A minimum 3 years’ experience with molecular and cell biology techniques including mammalian tissue culture, making protein extracts, western blotting, immunohistochemical staining, transfection, confocal, light and fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry
  • A working knowledge of protein biochemistry, protein-based techniques, and proteomics
  • Prior experience with peptide drug development is highly desirable
  • Prior expertise with in vivo rodent models, particularly kidney and liver injury models, would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills and an ability to work both in a team environment as well as independently are a must
  • An excellent record of peer-reviewed publications
