Informed by Muskoka Language International’s (MLI’s) mission statement and service values, the Homestay Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the overall success of the Homestay Division within their local community for students coming from a variety of countries including Japan, Mexico, Germany, Korea, China, etc.

This involves recruiting,selecting and orienting quality host familiesto provide supportive family-based accommodations for International students. Once students have arrived, the Homestay Coordinator monitors and supports homestay placementsfor all AYP, Group and Direct student homestay requirements. He or she plans and arranges for a variety of events/ activitiesto orient families and students to the homestay experience and the local community and to facilitate opportunities for personal connections. The position may also require the incumbent to act as custodian for students.

Work is executed from your home-based office, in host families’ homes, and in various locations within the community.

You are:

  • A natural networker, building relationships and connections
  • A planner and organizer, both deadline and detail oriented
  • A strong communicator, with exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Service oriented
  • A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Flexible in your work hours / able to work extended hours when necessary

You have:

  • A degree or diploma in a related field of study (preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of and involvement in your local community
  • Experience with youth, international students, Canadian high school system, with an understanding and sensitivity to cultural differences and diversity
  • A valid Canadian driver’s license
  • A clear criminal record
