ROLE OVERVIEW

The EVP, Finance and Business Development develops short, medium and long-term strategic financial and business plans for all commercial areas. They provide advice and policy interpretation to the leaders of the organization and ensure financial policies and procedures are compliant. The EVP, Finance and Business Development plans, benchmarks, and creates guidelines to support business areas that are aligned with the mission and strategic plan of Ocean Wise. The EVP, Finance and Business Development is responsible for ensuring that each department remains compliant with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and internal policies. This position is further responsible for the strategic business development activities of the organization, including assessment of operational issues, market analysis and the critical evaluation of new and existing business opportunities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Overseeing the overall business administration activities of OWCA by:

Overseeing, directing, collaborating and communicating with teams responsible for Finance and Business Administration to ensure overall operational excellence;
Leading the business development activities related to OWCA’s overall strategy;
Creating long-term value from visitors, markets, and relationships;
Creating, monitoring, evaluating and continuously improving a comprehensive financial planning process and overall financial strategy;
Monitoring the organization’s overall financials, and reviewing the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the organization’s financial systems and reporting;
Developing and leading short, medium and long-term strategic financial and business development plans in accordance with various business goals and the organization’s mission;
Overseeing continuous analysis and improvement of various organizational activities, systems and performance to ensure efficiency;
Executing business development opportunities to achieve overall organizational goals;
Leading the budgeting and yearly financial planning process;
Keeping the President & CEO appropriately informed about business activities, potential threats, opportunities, and recommended actions;
Providing leadership for strategic business development and key corporate planning issues on major business decisions;
Contributes to determining resource allocation amongst business units and/or departments;
Developing and maintaining effective relationships with employees, managers, executives and board members;
Ensuring accurate, relevant, efficient, and timely financial reporting within and between each department;
Monitoring departmental performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken, where and when necessary;
Monitoring legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to OWCA operations to ensure compliance at all times;
Responsible for motivating and developing the skills of each department to foster productivity, professionalism and high morale.

Continually improving our impact on the environment and greening of operations through support of EMS protocols;

Maintaining and supporting organizational safety standards;

Provides management, coaching and mentoring to Direct Reports and contributes to and fosters the development of the team by:

Creating an environment conducive to individual development, productivity, and achievement while ensuring open lines of communication;
Ensuring that employees are well organized, sufficiently trained/cross-trained to perform their responsibilities, developed to their potential and deployed in a manner that permits a cost-effective operation;
Planning and facilitating individual touch bases, group touch bases, and skill-building sessions where appropriate;
Providing direction, guidance and support to team members and motivating staff to achieve a high level of performance and productivity;
Establishing performance objectives/goals, reviewing progress throughout the year, and completing formal performance reviews for direct reports as required;
Recognizing and rewarding success, and managing poor performance;
Developing and obtaining agreement on development plans for all direct reports, recommending training courses and seminars where appropriate;
Recruiting, hiring and promoting team members in accordance with standard Ocean Wise policies;
Creating an environment conducive for full employee engagement;
Monitoring and controlling expenditures to ensure that Ocean Wise standards are met while continuing to maintain monthly budget;

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

MBA or other advanced university degree, preferably in finance, accounting, management or an equivalent combination of education and experience required;
CPA designation is strongly preferred;
Minimum 10 years of senior level experience in Finance and Business Development
