Job Description:
Role Summary:
As a member of the Canadian Finance team reporting to the AVP of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Director Strategic Initiatives will perform a key enabling role supporting the key strategic initiatives for Sun Life Canada (SLC). The incumbent in this position will be accountable for providing business support and consulting services to enable the current and evolving business group strategy, coordination of cross business unit efforts to achieve key business objectives, and engagement of internal and external partners and stakeholders.

Main Accountabilities:
Working in close collaboration with the SVP, Chief Financial Officer and VP, Controller of SLC to drive key strategic initiatives from a Finance perspective
Accountable for the execution and integrity of consolidated SLC inancial and business outcomes for internal reporting (Sun Life Executive Team and SLC Board) and external reporting (Management Discussion & Analysis and Earnings News Release)
Participate in a variety of capacities on business area projects as required (e.g. business analyst, project manager, researcher, facilitator)
Identify, develop and maintain relevant metrics (dashboard and monitoring tools) that will enable the Business Group to develop effective plans, and in turn execute/manage the key elements of the business on an ongoing basis
Ensure relevant reporting is routinely enhanced and distributed to key stakeholders groups
Collaborate effectively with business partners by providing guidance, direction and support to the tools, processes and reports for Senior Management
Utilize organizational know how to continually focus on the development and improvement of complex business processes
Perform ad-hoc analysis and provide recommendations to senior management to influence decisions
Participate in Finance projects as required

Ability to leverage technology to streamline processes and provide analytical support

University degree – accounting designation preferred but not required
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
Experience in project management, business planning and/or financial reporting
Experience working in the insurance industry or a large financial institution

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
