We are seeking an experienced, energetic Health, Safety, and Environmental Coordinator (HSE) to join our North America Wood Coatings division located in Cornwall, Ontario. The Wood Coatings division manufactures technology leading OEM & distribution coatings for the global furniture, cabinetry, flooring and building products markets. The HSE Coordinator role reports to the Cornwall Plant Manager.
This position is responsible for the leadership, management and implementation of all regulatory compliance, injury and fire prevention, and industrial hygiene initiatives for our Cornwall Wood operations. These operations span across manufacturing and warehousing facilities, research laboratories, and color/design studios.
To support PSM and RC14001 programs - will provide in depth expertise on safety, health and environment to line management.
Set standards, compiles reports and submit to various regulatory agencies.
Provide technical and regulatory EHS guidance for programs including non-hazardous, bio-hazardous and hazardous waste, wastewater management, air emissions, hazard communication, bio-safety, injury and illness prevention, chemical hygiene, industrial hygiene, lab safety, emergency preparedness, facilities / contractor safety, and pollution prevention
Develop, implement, deliver and track effective training programs
Lead job hazard analysis assessments and new equipment and / or process safety reviews. Monitor closure of action items.
Implement site emergency response plan
Provide effective Incident Response and follow up
Oversee and conduct Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis.
Ensure injury and illness cases are effectively managed to closure and preventive measures are identified, communicated, and implemented.
Participate in EHS inspection program and track corrective action items to completion
Support annual environmental permit submissions, assist with preparation of regulatory reports (wastewater, hazardous materials business plans, air district reports etc.).
Participate in EHS audits as appropriate
Bachelor’s degree in science, safety or environmental management
Must have thorough knowledge of federal, provincial and local EHS regulations
Professional Certification: CRSP, EHS or other certifications a plus
Minimum of 8 years of experience in an environmental, health, safety or related discipline
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with PSM and RC14001 programs
Knowledge of Reliance ETQ and Bloomberg BNA an asset
Experience in implementing and sustaining OH&S programs is strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies
Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required
Technical and practical knowledge of biotechnology, research and development and / or manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required
Have solid experience with behaviour-based safety and root cause investigation techniques as well as delivering safety training and maintaining accurate records
Respirator certified and be able to wear protective equipment required during emergency response to a chemical spill an asset
Must be able to work flexible hours and/or overtime when needed
Work requires manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
Heavy visual and mental concentration and periods of prolonged sitting are required
Frequently required to conduct production floor and warehouse visits to perform inspections, drills, EHS audits and may serve as an incident commander in ERT activities all of which may require prolonged standing or walking, negotiation of obstacles and bending or stooping during
Travel may be required – up to 10% annually.
