To support the effort of developing low carbon concrete using different technologies such as carbonization, Carbon Cure, and assisting in experiment of recycled concrete carbonization
Implementation of Lafarge Safety Policies, and Compliance with Government Legislation
Safety Induction of Visitors to Quality Lab or site as required
Execution of Job Hazard Analyses for QC Tasks, and implementation of Action Items
Execution and implementation of Lab/QC Safety Improvement Plans
Concrete and Aggregates Product Performance & Development:
The incumbent will be expected to be able perform all materials and durability tests in compliance with CSA and ASTM requirements. If not already certified, the incumbent will be expected to pass the ACI certification exams. The incumbent works with the Lab team, the tests executed at the Lab involve but are not limited to: fresh, hardened, and durability of concrete tests, pavement materials tests, aggregates tests and cement mortar test. This role requires someone who can work with autonomy in a lab setting.
The incumbent assists in the maintenance of the laboratory buildings and property. He or She must be familiar with standard repair techniques and proper routine maintenance procedures for the various pieces of laboratory equipment. Innovation regarding equipment and procedures is an important part of this position.
The incumbent must be able to produce high quality technical reports to summarize lab projects. Must be able to review specification, prepare and deliver technical documents, presentations and training materials. Must be able to interpret test results & recommend changes and next steps. Analyze and compare test results with specifications, tolerances and targets. Report any deviations or trends immediately to manager
The incumbent will be expected to be able to perform lab trials and testing of new products and new mix designs in Support utilization of recycled concrete carbonization in RMX
Participate in special products demonstrations, samples and mock-up preparation, applicators training (including placing and finishing activities)
Formally report daily activities and results to supervisor and ensure timely data entry and timely reporting
Prepare and perform formulation tests that support the creation, development and improvement of low carbon concrete mixes
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel.
The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb stairs & ladders; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear and smell. Infrequently the employee is required to work in awkward situations; balance; stoop, kneel or crouch
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employee must perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment. Various PPE will include safety boots, reflective clothing, safety glasses, gloves and hard hat. Additional PPE may be required depending upon tasks.
Relationship with Others
The successful candidate will work directly for the Regional Lab Supervisor and with the Lab team. He/she will liaise with QC Managers, supervisors and other market area personnel.
Mix Design & Optimization
Product & Raw Material Quality Control & Performance
This candidate will report directly to the Regional Lab Supervisor and will have no direct reports. He/she will be part of a department that is responsible for the quality of approximately 3,000,000m3 of ready mix concrete.
University Student in Science or Engineering Program Preferred with 1 years related experience
Minimum 3-year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with 2 years of related experience, CET Designation
The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction materials (concrete and aggregates) industry. Have experience of working with CSA A23, A3000 a ASTM standards related to construction materials
Expert in cement, concrete and aggregate technology knowledge
Experience in analyzing/reporting results and maintaining records and sample techniques and instrumental analysis
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Strong computer skills and ability to quickly learn and use new software
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to develop effective internal and external relations
Maintain professional image at all times
Disciplined and process-oriented
