The University of Alberta Libraries seeks a full-time Public Services Assistant with a strong customer service orientation to provide reference, borrower services, and technology support to users. This position is located at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta, approximately one hour southeast of Edmonton, in Camrose. The Augustana Library supports the teaching, research, and information needs of students, staff and faculty in the arts and sciences.

Duties:
Supports user research through reference and information services to students, faculty, and the general public, either in person or at a distance using chat reference software, email, or the telephone
Assists users in finding information using library discovery systems, and provides point-of-need instruction
Participates in the development and maintenance of online learning objects
Assists users with technology-related questions and problems, including diagnosing hardware and software problems and initiating a course of action to provide solutions
Provides circulation services, including charging out and renewal of library materials, and uses the online circulation module of the Integrated Library System to provide user account services; contributes to the updating and recording of procedures
Applies policies and follows procedures that contribute to the security and safety of the library facility; opens and closes the library
Participates in the development and implementation of unit services and operations, and in special projects
Contributes to the library by assisting with: Augustana human library events, displays, one-to-one orientation and training of new staff members, library tours, etc.

Qualifications:
Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in a related subject discipline; Library and Information Technology Diploma is an asset
Related library experience and/or a computer support background
Demonstrated passion for research and ability to articulate research process in order to provide support to undergraduate users
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
Strong customer service skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
Ability to work both independently and collegially in a team environment
Aptitude for technology and ability to troubleshoot technological issues
Familiarity and comfort with desktop software (e.g. Google Apps, MS Office) and demonstrated aptitude for working in an electronic environment
Familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony (Workflows), NEOS catalogue, Internet and database search techniques, and other discovery tools, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud and video/tutorial editing software

Please note:
This full time position is located at the Augustana Campus, in Camrose, AB which is 100km southeast from central Edmonton. During the September to April academic year, work hours will include some evenings (until 10pm) and weekends; May to August hours run Monday to Friday day hours only. You will be expected to attend occasional meetings, training and events at North Campus in Edmonton.
