*Position Purpose

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will provide overall support to Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area in all activities related to promoting our brand in the community, engaging key stakeholders and building new relationships. By creating a positive experience for anyone who interacts with our organization and presenting a compelling and inspiring voice for our work, the individual in this position will focus on the creation, enhancement and monitoring of various communication strategies and channels. This position will result in increased resources for programming, a stronger brand reputation, new strategic partnerships and greater operational effectiveness. Working with the Executive Director and other staff, this individual will be a champion within the organization for excellence in philanthropy and communications.

*Key Responsibilities

Marketing and communications

  • Develop, implement and monitor an organizational communication plan/calendar
  • Lead and manage all our social media by working collaboratively with our regional marketing and communications staff person on shared campaigns, and by developing our own local initiatives
  • Manage our website, including content, design and usage
  • Manage our email communication platform ensuring that the right audience gets the right message at the right time
  • Write, distribute and track the effectiveness of our monthly match e-newsletter
  • Support the development of our annual report and other print material, as needed
  • Support the launch and multi-year implementation of our new national brand (both digitally and in print)
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure our brand messaging is consistent, visible and communicated regularly

Event planning**

  • Provide direction, and in some cases lead, a team of volunteers in the execution of several special events each year
  • Coordinate all aspects of our annual events, including volunteer recruitment/management, registration, sponsorships, promotions, “day of” logistics and post-event recognition *


  • Support the development and implementation of our new fundraising strategy, primarily through research and other administrative duties
  • Lead our team in achieving our goal to learn and maximize the use of our donor database, and to improve our shared filing system as it relates to fundraising

Customer relations

  • Respond to requests and opportunities from the community using a client-centered approach and in a manner that upholds our mission, vision and core values
  • Manage front desk reception in the same manner as above


  • Provide reports and other information to the Executive Director as required
  • Support the Manager of Finance and Administration in ensuring that financial records are kept and maintained to organizational standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills required:

  • Understanding of the needs and issues of our target population and the community we serve
  • Experience with values-based, volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organizations
  • Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate activities within deadline/resource parameters
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with strong attention to detail and the capacity to adapt to change
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Website management skills and understanding of web architecture are an asset
  • Graphic design skills and understanding of graphic design software are an asset
  • Proficiency using Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook) and CRM systems

Education, experience and other requirements:

  • University degree and/or college diploma in a related field
  • Demonstrated success and/or specific training in marketing and communications
  • Proven social media experience
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment is an asset
  • Criminal reference check (Vulnerable Sector Screening)
  • Some evening and weekend work (sufficient notice will be provided)
