Licensed Practical Nurses in the GI Medicine Program work with a diverse patient population and are able to develop a well-rounded knowledge base of internal medicine. You will have the opportunity to provide health care to patients by utilizing critical thinking skills and working up to full scope of practice (i.e. the administration of intermittent intravenous medications, monitoring of continuous IV medication infusions etc). This includes, but not limited to performing various treatments and procedures; assessing the patient, planning their care based on the assessment, observing, monitoring, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided, reporting and documenting changes in the patient's physical, mental or emotional state; assisting the patient with activities of daily living; providing both patient and family with relevant information and selected education and performing other related duties as required and/or delegated. LPNs serve individuals, families, and groups, assessing their needs and providing care and treatment as appropriate. You will have the opportunity to develop assessment and critical thinking skills, formulate nursing diagnoses, plan interventions, provide health education, and evaluate response to treatment in collaboration with clients and other health professionals (i.e. physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and registered nurses). Must the able to work up to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy fast paced GI/ Hepatology Unit. Must be able to push, lift, and pull more than 50 lbs.
Recent acute care medicine experience preferred.
