Surface Grinder Shift: Rotating Days & Afternoons In this role, the Surface Grinder performs surface grinding operations to grind external surfaces of metallic components as per engineering drawings or specifications. The incumbent of this role is responsible for grinding a quality product that meets the customer’s expectations and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. -Ensure components are cosmetically acceptable; ensure that dimensions meet customer requirements from process sheets and blueprints; -Mount and dress the required Grinding Wheel for the Manual Grinder(s); -Complete In-Process and Final-Process quality checks as required, using gauges, micrometers, indicators etc.; -Use various hand tools and/or overhead hoist as required; -Set appropriate magnetic chuck or related jig to hold components securely for grinding operations; -Check blue prints to verify machining dimensions; use mounted grinding wheel to machine final desired dimension; -Conduct minor preventative maintenance procedures as scheduled; -Complete minor troubleshooting as required; -Ensure Team Leader is notified when run times are incorrect or product will not meet time lines; -Ensure machining tasks are completed in accordance with specified run times; -Report discrepancies to the Planner or Team Leader; -Provide guidance and/or training for apprentices when required; -Make recommendations for productivity and/or method improvements; -Ensure ISO guidelines are followed; follow Job Instruction Sheets and Tag Procedures
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individuals must have a High School Diploma, with a minimum of one-year experience and/or training in a precision machining environment; a licensed machinist.
