Here’s what you will do as part of the team:
Manage and oversee the general accounting activities of the Corporation, including but not limited to processing financial transactions, maintaining financial records, cash and investment management, fixed asset management, account reconciliation, record retention, policy compliance, preparation of internal and external financial reports and the coordination of year-end accounting and audit processes;

Develop, implement, maintain and ensure compliance with appropriate controls over accounting and financial processes to mitigate financial, reputational, legal, and other business risk;

Review sales agreements to identify the appropriate revenue recognition methods and amounts, and monitor amendments and receivables to identify changes to revenue recognition and potential collection issues;
Coordinate period deadlines, payment cycles, and other transaction schedules with stakeholders and oversee the reconciliation of the general ledger accounts in accordance with the reconciliation schedule;
Respond to requests for financial information and supporting analysis from internal and external stakeholders while maintaining appropriate confidentiality;
Collaborate with the CFO, and the Director, Finance to develop policies, procedures, and strategies for the safeguarding and appropriate use of corporate assets and disposition of corporate liabilities;
Provide recommendations on strategic, tactical, and transactional matters, including process improvements, issue resolution, and project management;
Lead and mentor your team while fostering a creative, collaborative and empowered environment and promoting a customer-oriented service delivery approach;
Provide input to annual Branch operational goals, identify unit operating budget requirements, and identify and develop plans to mitigate variances against budget.

Here’s what you will need to succeed:
Minimum five years in a financial capacity with at least three years in a supervisory capacity;

Completion of Post-Secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or related field;

Completion and maintenance of an Accounting designation (CPA);

Thorough knowledge of Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for not-for-profit organizations;

Advanced proficiency in the SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite;

Analytical and problem solving skills in a financial context to complete analysis and recommendations;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to lead and mentor staff.

Nice to have:
Knowledge of SAP;

Supervisory experience in a union environment.
