The Role of the Plant Operator is a critical role in our structure. Plant Operators are responsible for the completion of day-to-day activities at the plant location. Plant operators ensure the plant is operating safely, effectively and efficiently within the framework of established policies and procedures. The Plant Operator provides leadership to ensure good morale and employee relations at the plant while facilitating accurate and timely communication between the plant, Drivers, other Management and Distribution.

Daily and Weekly Plant Inspections
Maintain cleanliness of plant and yard
Monitor slump times of drivers based on information provided by distribution
Maintain plant inventories of raw materials. Eg: Cement Powder, Admixes, Fibers
Work with loader operator daily to maintain aggregate inventories
Communicate quickly to Dispatch any issues that will impact the delivery times of concrete
Establish good rapport with the drivers
Attempt to investigate any potential issues developing at the plant and initiate any immediate corrective action or seek support from other management resources
Understand current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
With the Plant Management Team, collaborate on appropriate behaviour management strategies where required.
Contractor Safe Work Permit Forms/Hot work permits – Proper Completion of Permits, Review of permit and policy with Contractor, inspect work area, follow up when work complete, Storage of Completed Form
Participate in annual safety audits and preparation work for the annual safety audits
Conduct bi-monthly cleanliness inspection of the plant fleet.
Ensure cylinders are delivered to lab in less than 3 days
Coordinate with QC to Meet Monthly process control targets
Coordinate with QC to complete any additional testing as required
Moisture compensation accuracy
Get daily feedback from drivers regarding temperature and slump
Conducting minimum bi-weekly physical moisture tests on the sand or as needed
Incident reports
Train back up operators as needed
Complete all training as required

High School diploma/GED
1-3 years related experience and/or training performing batching, plant operation, blending or quality assurance functions
Must possess a valid driver’s license. May require a valid loader ticket
Basic computer skills with ability to use batch mixing system
