Reporting to the Manager, Utilities, the Supervisor, Utilities Shift provides direct leadership and direction to the operating crews in the Powerhouse, Water Treatment, and Plant Services areas. The incumbent will coordinate the daily activities of plant operations to continually meet the business objectives of safe, efficient, and effective production and delivery of the plant's outputs.
Plan, organize, and direct the shift-to-shift operations of the Utilities operating areas, supporting the area business plan on a 0-3 month time frame.
Execute production plans and requirements on a continuous basis within the scope of the role. Monitor and respond to emerging or potential operating concerns. Ensure prompt resolution or escalation.
Consistently communicate and monitor process KPI requirements, operating performance and quality expectations.
Facilitate implementation of training and education plans for operations team, ensuring operator competency at all times for assigned activities and sufficient overlap amongst posted positions to minimize requirements for overtime.
Ensure compliance with ABSA regulations relating to the operation of pressure equipment in the operating area.
Ensure compliance to relevant provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Actively participate in workplace investigations and resolutions relating to the grievance process.
Develop amongst the operating team a consistent understanding and application of standards and procedures with the objective of zero harm to employees, the environment, and neighboring communities.
Provide coaching and monitoring to operations crews, ensuring established performance management expectations are adhered to and appropriate human resources policies are followed.
Embed Operational Excellence tools and strategies into the day-to-day activities of the operating team, supporting continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
2nd class power engineering certificate or degree in engineering.
Significant process plant operations experience.
Trained in crisis response.
Effective work planning, coordinating, and execution skills.
Managing within a unionized workforce.
Effective written and verbal communication.
Ability to build inclusive, harassment-free workplaces.
