We are looking for a Technical Officer to support our Human Health Therapeutics Research center. The candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
In the past few years, development of bio-therapeutics to treat various diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, has taken the center stage. Significant progress is being made in the design, engineering and development of novel therapeutics. Treating neurodegenerative diseases is particularly challenging because of poor delivery of bio-therapeutics to the brain due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). You will have a unique opportunity to participate in a multi-team, multi-site collaborative research effort to develop novel (BBB) permeable CNS bio-therapeutics. Responsibilities will include providing technical support services in the design, planning, preparation, execution, analysis and documentation of experiments, and preparation of reports for clients.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Bachelors’ degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or relevant related discipline.
Other relevant education in Life Science combined with significant industrial experience may be also considered.
For information on certificates and diplomas issued abroad, please see Degree equivalency
Experience in biochemical and immunochemical assays such as ELISA, Western blot, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry
Experience in preparing and culturing primary neuronal cells, and in culturing established cell lines for cell-based and other assays
Experience in animal studies (in vivo studies), including transcardial perfusion, tissue collection and dissection, and cryostat sectioning
Experience in microscopy imaging techniques (phase contrast, fluorescence etc)
Experience in supporting the development of Bioanalytics for bio-therapeutics
The following is considered an important asset towards consideration for the position:
Experience in working on Industrial Project(s) with clearly defined milestones and time-bound deliverables
Experience in working in a multidisciplinary environment interacting with personnel from various teams
Condition of Employment
Information on language requirements and self-assessment tests
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Working knowledge of safe handling procedures for biological samples, particularly blood (serum), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), experimental animal tissues, synthetic and recombinant proteins, including physical manipulation, proper storage conditions and working under sterile environment.
Working knowledge of biochemical and immunological methods for the characterization of biologics such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA, Spectroscopy (Absorbance, fluorescence) and imaging.
Working knowledge of tissue culture techniques
Ability to prepare and maintain primary neuronal cells
Ability to support biochemical and functional characterization blood-brain barrier crossing bio-therapeutics in vitro and in vivo by executing and properly documenting experimental methodologies and results.
