Job Summary:

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor delivers quality programs and services to our members and participants. This includes maintaining a safe aquatic environment at all times, educating the public regarding safe swimming habits and providing progressive instruction in the YMCA aquatic system. This also includes Water Fitness. This position reports to the Aquatics and Youth Supervisor and the Aquatic Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • To instruct and ensure the continuity of swim lessons, progress reports, attendance and safety during lessons
  • Follow additional training to instruct a variety of aquatic programming
  • Work professionally with members, volunteers and the aquatic team
  • Regular usage of cleaning supplies for deck and equipment maintenance
  • Adhering to all aquatic policies and procedures
  • Solving participant/member concerns in a customer focused manner
  • Proactively developing relationships with members, staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrating a commitment to YMCA Mission, Vision and Vales
  • Assuming other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Hold current certifications in National Lifeguard and Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Hold current certification in one of the following; Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor or YMCA Swim Instructor
  • Water Fitness instructors certification an asset
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
