The Manager, Business Development leads a team of professionals and is responsible for overall development and delivery of innovative programming and outreach initiatives to grow and enhance export competitiveness of Nova Scotia tourism businesses. The Manager will contribute significantly to the enhancement of tourism products, industry and community capacity, and the building of a culture of quality and business excellence in the tourism sector.
Work includes business development, investment attraction and readiness, export-readiness and industry partnerships. Functions include managing a team who provide start-up advice, business case analysis, support for investment attraction, implementation of travel trade readiness and other export programming, and managing funded programs for industry growth and competitiveness. The Manager will lead the development of collaborative agreements with industry and communities in areas of technology adoption, human resource development, industry learning, management training, and support for community-based visitor centres.
The Manager will be responsible for ongoing status reports and outcome measurements of program initiatives, providing strategic advice to the Director of Sector Development and Tourism Nova Scotia senior management through direction, planning, evaluation and implementation. The Manager will have experience with and knowledge of legislation, regulations, policies and programs to support Tourism Nova Scotia business development priorities. Manager will be instrumental in collaborating across government departments (federal, provincial, municipal) and cultivating excellent ongoing relations with industry, stakeholders and community groups to build strong relationships and achieve outcomes.
Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Business, Commerce) plus five years' related experience, or master's degree plus three years' experience. The ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to tight timelines. Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of competence in written and verbal communication are essential in order to prepare written materials and to present work/findings and to interact and converse with stakeholders. The position requires a broad understanding of the structure of government and its functional workings. A broad network of contacts both inside and outside government would contribute to successful outcomes.
Specific knowledge of business assistance programming available through various government and non-government programs is considered an asset. Knowledge of best practice business outreach and business retention and expansion techniques would also be an asset.
Knowledge of the Nova Scotia economy and Canadian tourism industry and its various elements and drivers is essential.

Salary Rage: $3,036.38 - $3,797.50 Bi-weekly
