The Facility Environmental Manager will perform professional work at local level in support of the Plant Environmental Compliance Programs and Systems at the Englehart, ON facility. This position will be responsible for ensuring facility compliance with pertinent governmental regulations, including provincial, federal and local air regulations for air emissions, storm water, wastewater, and hazardous wastes. The role will also help ensure that the site conforms to relative company policies and procedures, such as Georgia Pacific's Environmental Compliance Standards.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
Providing environmental permitting / planning support and management to expense and capital projects

Analyze incident and compliance trend data and work with operating departments to reduce risk

Assisting with day-to-day environmental compliance requirements of applicable permits, plans, and regulations. These may include collecting records, preparing reports, monitoring & directing work performed by consultants, conducting inspections, and sample collection\

Being the technical expert and compliance standard owner

Directing and assisting in compliance of Federal (MOE) and Provincial (Ontario) environmental program requirements, including but not limited to air, wastewater, stormwater, solid and hazardous waste.

Assisting Plant Manager with the integration of the environmental system into the plant’s overall Operational Excellence (OpEx) Plan

Analyzing incident and compliance trend data and working with operating departments to reduce risk

Participating in and/or leading environmental incident investigations, mitigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions

Coordinating activities and preparing/submitting reporting to outside agencies on schedule

Assessing and mitigating employee exposure to hazards in the workplace

Staying current with new ideas, engineering, and techniques in the environmental field

Representing facility during agency inspections

Identifying cost-effective solutions for technical and regulatory environmental issues

Working closely with the Business Environmental Manager for guidance and direction on all environmental matters

Knowledge sharing with Environmental personnel at other GP Building Product facilities

Learning and applying Market Based Management (MBM®) and foster the use of the MBM® Guiding Principles to create value and drive down risk at the site.

Functioning as the facility licensing and regulatory contact for 2-way radio

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering Degree or related science field OR Technical degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related science field

Ability to interface well with all employees (hourly and salaried) in the facility

Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and lift/carry up to 25 lbs periodically

Experience managing an environmental program/projects in an industrial setting

Experience with resolution and firmness to take charge of environmental matters and direct others’ activities as needed

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in understanding emissions calculations, emissions factors and how they are applied to calculate emissions
Experience implementing key management systems/controls, such as Permits, Plans, License & Registration; Written Representation Tables; Statement of Basis
