As the Video Editor, On-Call you will be responsible for producing, sourcing, and editing video content primarily across Pelmorex Weather Networks (PWN) Canada, Desktop and Mobile platforms.
You will edit material using state-of-the-art, non-linear editing equipment, and will adopt a digital-first editing philosophy, ensuring video is produced with a digital audience top of mind!
Ideally you will have a passion for the fast-paced world of digital and how it aligns with social media to distribute compelling and original content to a wide audience. Finding ways to integrate new digital technologies and ideas in to the daily editorial plan will also be required, so having your finger on the pulse of where news and video is going and how we can get there is paramount.
In this role you will work alongside the editorial and production teams in digital and broadcast to ensure that the budgeted expectations of each platform are met, with additional focus on growing audiences, and producing content in a manner that will work across all screens.
Working with the digital team you will also be responsible for pitching ideas, recommending new video production strategies, and finding ways to provide greater exposure and value for the growing archive of video
What’s the Day to Day Look Like:
The successful candidate will perform various technical jobs in a digital/broadcast environment including:
Liaise with Managing Editor on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis as required to stay in-line with editorial direction
Participate in news meetings and weather briefs to ensure editing team is aware and up-to-date
Edit and/or update daily and on-demand segments for digital platforms
Edit daily Trending Now and Force of Nature segments for Television
Provide editing support to TV Producers and Directors during Active Weather and Stormwatch
Sourcing of video clips sent by satellite, fiber, ftp, Dejero
Scouring of video clips from social, User-Generated (UGC), Reuters, Storyful, CNN, CBC, and/or other TBD content partners
Pitch ideas to the Managing Editor and take initiative in producing features that will resonate with the PWN digital audience
Write scripts for and produce Text-on-Video (TOV) or Voice Over (VO) videos
Monitor broadcast and identify relevant clips to be used online and across mobileand vice versa
Working with various editing platforms – Final Cut 7, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut X
Work with Engineering and support staff to report any technical issues that may arise with Editing equipment and workflows. Promptly trouble shoot any editing equipment issues
Take an analytics-based approach to video production, regularly monitoring performance of VOD clips and applying key learnings to future productions
Work collaboratively with a team of Video Specialists and apply ongoing feedback into editing style and production
Provide dedicated editing support for sponsorship opportunities when applicable

Qualifications (Must Haves):
Diploma in Broadcast or Communications and a minimum of 1-year experience as Editor is preferred
Must have a strong working knowledge of non-linear editing (Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere).
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a must
Experience working with media asset management systems
Good technical understanding of audio/video equipment
Knowledge of broadcasting standards and systems
Advanced digital editing skills (3 - 5 years of experience)
Experience working online as part of a daily digital operation (dot-com, dot-ca, etc.)
Advanced understanding of Content Management Systems
Advanced understanding of Brightcove and its capabilities or similar Online Video Studio suites
Ability to package content quickly and accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Proven video editing skills using industry-standard video editing solutions
Familiar with iPad, iPhone and other mobile devices
Knowledge of weather and its trends

Flexible schedule is a must. May work various shift times including weekends and holidays
