Children's Grouphome Program Supervisor

Reporting to the Manager of Residential Youth Services, the Supervisor is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for developing and implementing preventative and positive meaningful life programs for children, including day programs and recreational activities. The successful candidate will be able to create a warm, caring environment that is clean and tidy, smell of fresh healthy meals, full of humour and attentiveness. The successful candidate will supervise program staff; this includes conducting performance appraisals, organizing team meetings, managing schedules and monitoring program delivery. The supervisor will work to ensure agency objectives are met and contribute to a positive team culture and environment. Liaison within the community and building relationships will be also a key part of this role. Another key part of this role is joining the On-Call rotation – the Supervisor will take a one-week long rotation providing 24/7 support to all of the 4 residences in the program.

Description:

The Children's House Program Supervisor will provide leadership and support to all aspects of the house from staffing to case management and facility operations. The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in Child and Youth Care provision to children with disabilities, street involvement and mental health disorders.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of strengths-based practice and resilience theory.
  • Provide relational, culturally-proficient care to children from various cultures and religions, and remain sensitive to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ and Indigenous identified youth.
  • Work within a Collaborative Service Delivery framework team including Guardian/Case Worker/FCI Management, schools and other stakeholders.
  • Understand current trends in Child and Youth Care practices.
  • Have experience with the training and supervision of staff members.
  • Have excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational and collaborative skills.
  • Demonstrate strong professional boundaries.
  • Be dynamic, fun and caring, willing to engage and join children in recreational activities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to a flexible schedule, work environment and work demands.
  • Have proficient knowledge of Microsoft and Google computer applications.
  • Have a current Vulnerable Persons Police Information Check and a current Alberta Children’s Services Intervention Check.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

  • Bachelors or Diploma in Child and Youth Care.
  • Bachelors or Diploma in a related Human Services field may be considered as an equivalency.
  • Child and Youth Care Certification will be considered an asset.
  • Experience and training in related fields may be considered as equivalents.

Training & Clearances

  • Understanding of Child and Youth mental health, Child and Youth Development and Trauma-informed practice
  • Security Clearance Check including the Vulnerable Sector Search (within the last 6 months)
  • Children Services Intervention Record Check (within the last 6 months)
  • Standard First Aid with CPR
  • Suicide Awareness or Suicide Intervention training
  • Cultural Awareness training
  • Medication administration training
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, as well as a driver’s abstract (within the last 6 months)
  • Auto Insurance, including $2 million third party liability coverage
  • Post-secondary level English and writing skills are required.

CRITICAL: The successful candidate will have a current valid Class 5 Drivers License, clean drivers abstract and vehicle with $2,000,000 liability insurance. The job involves transporting clients.

Hours of Work:

Full time position: 40 hours/week; willing to work a flexible schedule, which could include daytime, evening and weekend hours. Plus a one-week rotation on the 24/7 On-Call schedule approximately every 5 weeks.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $22.00 to $25.00 /hour
