The Alex: Changing Health. Changing Lives. The Alex Community Health Centre is a not-for-profit

organization that is changing how we look at health care in Calgary. Our health, housing and food

programs support our most vulnerable neighbours, tackling tough health and social issues head-on.

Using a multi-disciplinary team approach, we focus care on assessment, intervention and promotion of

all aspects of health. We embrace a model of health care that is accessible, responsive and participatory.

In addition to the Family Health Centre, we run a Seniors Health Centre, a Youth Centre, two Mobile

Community Health Buses, one Dental Health Bus, four Housing First Programs, a Community Food

Centre and Youth Law.

What we do and why we do it:
Located within The Alex Community Health Centre, the Wellness Centre offers social programming
based on the principles of inclusivity, dignity, advocacy, and empowerment. We take a trauma-informed
approach providing health and wellness programming for a diverse population. The Alex serves
vulnerable Calgarians who often experience challenges posed by poverty, homelessness, and food
insecurity. Programming areas include substance use and addictions, physical health, mental health,
nutrition and food skills, life skills and financial literacy, as well as social skills. The Alex Wellness Centre
is a place where individuals can access healthy food, learn new skills, make new friends, and increase
their agency and resiliency.

The Wellness Coordinator is a dynamic and people-oriented leader, who will bring a passion for program
development and evaluation. They are responsible to develop, coordinate, and facilitate programming
at the Alex Community Health Centre that supports participants to promote their whole health and well-
being. The ideal candidate is someone who will bring leadership, creativity, and a capacity for strong
partnerships and who will promotes health and wellness beyond just the prevention of disease. They
will possess strong skills around facilitation, communication, and experience bringing people together to
increase social inclusion, improve quality of life and promote community health.

What you will do:
Coordinate wellness programming, volunteers, and facilitators
Plan and implement wellness programs for targeted participant groups, including yoga, crafts,

group therapy, and peer support programs
Cultivate communication, leadership, and connection among program participants and

volunteers
When necessary, facilitate groups, building a safe and inclusive space for participants
Create and update community resources and programs such as handouts and manuals
Create systems for program development, coordination and facilitation
Measure and evaluate program impact through support of data collection and reporting
Promote culture of health and safety within our space
Represent The Alex in the community

What you bring:
Degree in a related field of study (social work, health, community development)
Three years of experience with program development and/or program coordination
Practical knowledge of group facilitation, community outreach
Leadership experience working with volunteers and supervisory skills
Demonstrated ability to move people from knowledge to action; ability to inspire, teach and

empower community members to engage in positive change
Excellent group facilitation, interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
Demonstrated experience working with, and a desire to engage, marginalized people and

people of diverse cultures and abilities in a community-based setting
Current First Aid/CPR is mandatory
A class 5 non-GDL driver’s license, a clean 5-year driver’s abstract, $2,000,000 liability coverage

in car insurance, and vehicle are mandatory
Knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and

the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) 94 Calls to Action an asset
