The General Manager of Kim Tam Logistics has primary responsibility for the effective operations of Samuel’s North American logistics and support functions. This person will be responsible for leading an integrated logistics organization, be accountable for a full Operations P/L, with the overarching objective of defining a higher standard in safety and continuous improvement, profitability and compliance with all company and regulatory safety. The GM will work closely with our Manufacturing and Service Centers to create a best in class logistics organization that facilitates timely, consistent and cost effective deliveries of all of our products with an infrastructure that can adapt to changing business needs.
This position will provide leadership and direction to the logistics group and will closely collaborate with the senior management team to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans to meet Samuel’s growth objectives. The General Manager, Logistics will be expected to foster a culture that promotes continuous improvement as well as innovation that leads to the development of new and improved services.
Develop strategic and operating plans to improve competitiveness optimizing delivery results and cost savings
Contribute to strategic planning of company margin and growth initiatives
Ensure effective use and increasing returns on company working capital and overall investment through effective logistics metrics
Ensure the effective use and application of logistics management working in partnership with our various locations and by leveraging our supplier and vendor base.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lean initiatives.
Ensure logistics operations are fulfilling their core function of having the right product, in the right place, at the right time at the lowest possible cost
Lead profit improvement programs through the utilization of lean manufacturing methods and techniques, including Six Sigma.
Develop logistics best practices in areas such as systems integration and demand planning
Work with Procurement to build partnerships of scale with transportation vendors
Stay abreast of industry innovations and trends in logistics to improve company margins.
Provide leadership and direction to improve safety, reduce transportation costs, and maximize margins while promoting Samuel’s core values;
Develop a management structure to drive results and sustain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement;
Provide strategic and hands on tactical, daily leadership around logistics, quality and compliance
Manage quality, delivery, and cost performance and establish monitoring systems to effectively do so.
Work in partnership with Service Center, Manufacturing and Indirect Procurement to ensure Kim Tam meets external and internal customer needs in a timely manner;
Lead operations teams to develop annual operating plans and key performance indicators that support growth and profit improvement initiatives.
Define the talent requirements for Kim Tam Group, including attracting, managing, developing, and retaining personnel.
Collaborate with Human Resources in the development of operations-related programs, policies and procedures
Develop and manage Kim Tam’s financial operating plan
Responsible for the achievement of operational metrics for the department including
Detailed Freight cost targets to ensure maximum sales net returns
On-time delivery metrics
Work closely with Controller to ensure all operational decisions are based on sound financial analytics
Review financial statements and utilize financial data to improve efficiency
Prepare and control operational budgets
Oversee transportation related contract negotiations
Recommend effective strategies for the financial well-being of the Operation
Safety & Environmental Performance:
Provide leadership in safety and environmental stewardship by demonstrating and ensuring the adherence of company safety and sustainability processes and procedures.
Promote and direct a safe work culture.
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Logistics or Supply Chain Management positions for companies with sales in excess of $100M.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related business field, master’s degree is preferred.
Thorough understanding of supply chain planning processes and integrated freight management.
Commitment to Samuel’s core values of personal safety, sustainable management and environmental stewardship.
Ability to analyze P&L statements, implement expense controls, and validate processes of KPI measurements.
Ability to continuously drive lean practices into operations.
Established relationships within the transportation and supply chain industries are a plus.
Significant project management experience a requirement with a strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to manage multiple complex priorities and align resources.
High level of integrity and professionalism.
Detail oriented with superior communication and presentation skills; executive presence.
Expert team building skills to create and sustain highly motivated groups within diverse and multi-functional reporting units.
Ability to balance sometimes competing or conflicting goals of various departments/stakeholders, requires highly developed negotiating and influencing skills, analytical skills and sound judgment.
Ability to present concepts, project details and status reports to senior executive and stakeholders groups, placing high demand on the role for subject matter knowledge and presentation skills.
