Responsible for supervising and managing veneer and plywood production; provides effective leadership and assistance in regards to accomplishing the department goals and objectives; ensures all equipment is in good working condition and enforces safety policies and procedures; the supervisor performs duties in an efficient and profitable manner that promotes safety, quality and superior employee relations.
Responsible for personnel functions i.e. training, supervision, evaluations and disciplinary actions;
Supervises and directs workflow, activities and break times; prepares work schedules and ensures training requirements are met;
Ensures safe production; adheres to and enforces safety standards, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and The Ontario Health & Safety Act;
Uses and enforces the use of personal protection equipment (PPE);
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned;
Ensures that production and quality targets are met on a daily basis;
Minimize costs i.e. use of raw materials, overtime, consumables, waste management and energy usage, inventory;
Ensure all required documentation for production, safety and quality are complete and accurate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Minimum Qualifications):
High School Diploma;
Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience, preferably in plywood manufacturing;
Must be computer literate with proficiency in Windows-based programs;
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, motivate and develop employees;
Must have good communication, organizational and problem-solving skills;
Must have strong safety knowledge and experience;
First Aid certified or ability to obtain certification through employer;
Valid CPR/First Aid certification an asset;
Training or education for safety, supervisor or quality considered a strong asset;
Ability to work various hours and be on-call 24 hours, 7 days/week.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
Manual and finger dexterity as required to perform daily job duties;
Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 100 pounds;
Ability to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time;
Ability to sit, bend, squat and/or stoop;
Ability to reach, climb and/or crawl;
Works near or around moving mechanical parts, electricity and noise;
Exposed to smoke, fumes or airborne particles;
Exposed to outside weather conditions, including variations in temperature and precipitation;
Works near or around high and low temperatures.
