Position Summary:

The clinical counsellor lead aims to carry out the strategic objectives of the Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) to ensure the provision of effective and efficient clinical services and supervision to our participants and staff at the Traverse Youth Substance Use Treatment Centre. The clinical lead counsellor will provide individual support to clinical staff, carry a caseload, and liaise with families, funders and other professionals. They will also provide group-based addictions therapy and one on one clinical counselling using evidence-based interventions such as attachment theory, child and adolescent growth and development, counselling theories such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, and Existential and Experiential therapies onsite as well as outdoors. The lead clinical counsellor will balance clinical methodologies with recreational and relationship-based practise all within a strength-based, trauma-informed approach. This position requires a sound understanding of addictions, mental health and trauma-informed practices. The lead counsellor will oversee the clinical staff, providing supervision and leadership, while assuring all clinical programming objectives are met.

Primary Duties:

  • Oversee clinical programming including groups, file reviews, scheduling, communication logs, clinical objectives for programming, supervision of clinical staff, and rounds.
  • Lead, hire, onboard, supervise and mentor staff, volunteers and practicum students.
  • Provide advocacy, support and clinical counselling to participants and their families in a safe environment using evidence-based interventions.
  • Develop individual service plans and goals to meet participant needs; liaise with social workers, and other professionals involved in the participant's care team.
  • Engage in periodic evaluation and review of treatment goals and renegotiate as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate group, and individual case files and documentation.
  • In partnership with Manager, explore and pursue opportunities for partnerships, and develop proposals for service expansion, renewal, and development.
  • Understand and apply the PCRS’s policies and procedures. Identify, address and resolve issues related to policy, emergencies, service provision, and facilities where applicable.
  • Work within applicable Act/Regulations and roles of government and funders.

Academic and Job Experience Required:

Master’s degree or B.A. in a related field combined with at least five (5) years’ experience in a leadership position. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Registration with a clinical body such as the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association with three (3) years’ experience as a clinical counsellor.

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
  • Tuberculosis and medical clearance
  • Current standard first aid certificate
  • Class 5 driver’s license with business use insurance
  • Use of own vehicle required (Mileage is paid)
  • Driver’s abstract

Salary Range: $34.30/hour – $39.30/hour, Plus benefit package (100% employer paid)
