An exciting opportunity for a Scientist, this is a permanent opportunity with Qvella Corporation located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.

Nature and Scope of Work

The scientist will report to company's Principal or Chief Scientist and will participate in research activities related to the development of biomaterials as cell support. The development activity requires deep knowledge in soft materials, such as biopolymers and gels. In addition, ability to perform simple modeling of mass transport phenomena is essential. The candidate is expected to independently handle those aspects of the projects that involve the interaction of biological fluids with surfaces and soft matter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

The incumbent will be directly involved in new research related to product expansion within Qvella.
As an individual contributor, the incumbent will be responsible for monitoring day to day tasks of technicians on occasion.
Role will be somewhat evenly divided between benchwork in the lab and preparing documentation at your desk.
Moderate volumes of detailed, written results are the expected output for this role.
There is moderate amounts of communication required within the small research team. There is limited communication outside of the team.
Qualifications and Requirements

Scientific software knowledge at an advanced level sufficient to complete required work associated with this role, such as performing simulations
Administrative software skills sufficient to complete documentation associated with the research being completed.
While we strive to maintain a reasonable working schedule, occasional overtime and unusual scheduling is required to meet specific needs of an experiment.
As we are a company in a development phase, extreme adherence to confidentiality is required at all times.
Education

Ph.D. in Chemical engineering, Biophysics, Biomaterial sciences, or related fields
