Your Opportunity:
Come join our dynamic Calgary Rural Rehabilitation team! This temporary opportunity (ending Oct 29, 2021) will be based out of Vulcan, and will be focused on supporting our Occupational Therapy programming in the Vulcan Community Health Centre. The Vulcan Community Health Centre provides Acute care General Medicine, Emergency care, and outpatient services to patients from Vulcan and surrounding areas. There are 8 acute care beds for General Medicine and 15 Continuing Care beds. The rehab team also supports rehabilitation services at the Extendicare Long Term Care facility (48 beds), and provides outpatient rehab services. As the Occupational Therapist I you will work with our existing rehabilitation team to provide integrated rehabilitation services across the continuum of health services. In this role, you will be expected to perform mobility and seating assessments, cognitive assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. You may support multiple areas such as acute care, long term care, and home care programs. In addition to performing your clinical role you will be expected to foster effective relationships within the site and across our rehabilitation teams. A demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice to enhance patient health outcomes; ability to work independently within a complex and rapidly changing environment; ability to respect for diversity using a supportive, non-judgmental approach; conflict resolution, problem solving and critical thinking skills are all essential to succeed. In addition this role may require you to coordinate with and support our Claresholm rehabilitation team.

Description:
As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:
BLS-C Healthcare provider.

Preferred Qualifications:
At least 1 year experience (minimum 0.5 FTE) working in Home Care. At least 1 year experience (minimum 0.5 FTE) working in Acute Care. Previous rural experience is strongly preferred. AADL authorizer status.
