On behalf of a growing client, Carecor is currently seeking a Registered Psychologist to be based in the Halifax-Dartmouth region of Nova Scotia. This is a full-time, permanent job with a competitive salary, retirement savings plan, bonus plan and a family medical plan.

About the Employer
After successfully assisting the March of Dimes in the recruitment of Chief of Psychology, Carecor has been engaged to support the search for two Registered Psychologists, one for Halifax and one in B.C. to be based in Vancouver or Victoria. March of Dimes Canada is a federally registered national charity that offers a wide variety of programs and services to Canadians living with disabilities. They employ almost 2,500 staff and are supported by hundreds of volunteers, and maintain an annual budget above one hundred million dollars. Since 1951, March of Dimes Canada has been on the forefront of the disability movement with a mission that is dedicated to maximizing the independence, personal empowerment and community participation of people with disabilities. Their 2018-2023 Strategic Plan was created by a newly refreshed senior management team, who created a Plan that is focused on a bold vision of enhancing services to an expanding constituency, financing the vision, building stakeholder partnerships and creating an appropriate and sustainable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological, psychoeducational, and psychovocational assessment
  • Supervise psychometrists / vocational assessors as required
  • Communicate findings of assessments to stakeholders
  • Provide clinical consultation and diagnosis to people with disabilities
  • Review and edit work product to ensure it is in compliance with Department standard, professional practices, ethical guidelines, and funders requirements/expectations
  • Liaise with referral sources (such as but not limited to VAC, Lawyers and Insurance Adjusters), external consultants, and internal staff to ensure proper process is in place and being followed
  • Conduct case conference, troubleshoot and deal with conflicts in challenging situations
  • Provide input into national business development and support to the National Manager during contract negotiation and strategic planning
  • Reinforce agency policies when dealing with external consultants and internal staff if applicable
  • Provide training in relation to psychological services to staff and other professionals as appropriate
  • Contribute to research and educational initiatives as appropriate
  • Performance in this role significantly impacts the agency’s reputation, business relationship with referral sources (funders), and department sustainability

Key Qualifications

  • Registration in good standing with the Nova Scotia regulator
  • Ability to travel to and obtain permit to provide services in P.E.I. and New Brunswick; travel expenses and dues related to credentials in other provinces are reimbursed…see the compensation details below for details
  • Doctoral degree in clinical psychology (or equivalent) preferred
  • License to practice psychology and conduct psychological, psychoeducational and psychovocational assessment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience working in vocational rehabilitation settings with injured workers, veterans, and other diverse disadvantaged groups
  • Experience in assessment, treatment, and provide third party professional and objective opinions
  • Familiarity with issues/barriers that persons with disabilities encounter
  • Ability to be self-directed, operate independently with minimal supervision, and work concurrently on multiple projects
  • Willingness to travel to surrounding provinces, and possess a vehicle to travel within several regions to conduct assessment / deliver service; all expenses reimbursed
  • Strong organization, counselling, crisis intervention, mediation, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Qualification to practice neuropsychology and conduct neuropsychological assessment is an asset
  • Course work and experience in rehabilitation services are assets
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset

Compensation
The six-digit starting salary range can be discussed openly with Carecor’s Director of Search Services, along with the details around the four weeks of paid vacation, family medical plan, retirement savings plan, annual bonus plan and other benefits. All hotel and travel expenses are reimbursed. Further, all annual dues from the three provincial regulators of registered psychologists are reimbursed. Annual dues charged from the professional associations (separate from the provincial regulators) are also reimbursed. Further, MDOC provides support for attending conferences and continuing education as well, as long as the professional development is related to psychology and MDOC's overall service/mission, and PD is approved by the manager on a case by case basis.
