Senior Systems Engineer – IT

The Senior Systems Engineer is the IT colleague lead for support for validated systems. These key systems such as the Building Management System (BMS), Loftware and other production systems require that they meet GMP standards.

The Senior Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for the back-office elements associated with virtual environments, including the servers located in server rooms across the company. This person will maintain and support components such as the Operating System, as well as the databases that enable the proper functioning of the enterprise systems such as SAP, Empower, LIMS and other systems.

This person will also be the responsible for the key IT infrastructure systems at CPL (such as E-mail and calendaring, File and Print Servers, Phone Systems the backup, restore and be an important part of the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) system. This person will act as a backup to the Senior Network Engineer and support them on the Wide Area Network WAN and Local Area Network LAN and firewalls.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, manage and support the company’s VMWare environment.
Manage the company storage and replication activities
Lead the support of the Windows servers environment
Focuses on the current Production environments to ensure the service availability remains within agreed upon Service Levels.
Initiates conversations with IT Management regarding Production environment and lifecycle management.
Initiates conversations with IT Management regarding areas of improvement within the Production environments.
Acts as IT representative when requested in Production projects and meetings and provides appropriate updates to IT Management and IT team.
Completes and/or improves the documentation associated with the Information Systems under the span of control. These documents may be in-scope for compliance purposes, and typically include Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Processes and Procedures (BPP), instruction manuals and other.
Works with IT management to source and manage contract technical help as required.
Implements and follows the Project Management processes in the delivery of initiatives to the organization.
Collaborates with IT and the functional areas in the formulation and recommendation of Business Solutions, leveraging existing IT infrastructure or implementing new technologies if/as required.
Provides backup coverage for escalated incidents in the maintenance and support of the core IT Back office systems such as Email and Calendaring system, File and Print servers, Remote access, backup and Disaster Recovery Planning systems and many others.
Participates in the annual Disaster Recovery Plan test across the organization and with the objective of maintaining a flexible yet efficient process for the recovery of systems in the case of a disaster.

QUALIFICATIONS:
4-year University Degree in computer science, mathematics, science, business or equivalent.
Approximately 5 years of experience in increasingly responsible information technology technical roles.
Demonstrated working knowledge of VMWare
Demonstrated working knowledge of SAN storage best practices.
Experience is support an Office 365 hybrid solution.
Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device or consumer packaged goods industry preferred.
Significant exposure to the SAP Enterprise Resources Planning Systems, TrackWise.
Understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing compliance (Computer Systems Validation) and 21 CFR Part 11 strongly preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
Technology certifications preferred: e.g. HP Networking, PureStorage (All Flash) Cisco, Microsoft, Palo Alto, Avaya
Strong critical and analytical skills, rounded by solid presentation and influencing skills.
Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
Demonstrated competencies in CPL’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Trust and Fairness.
Proven history of successful project deliverables.
Training in Lean preferred.
Experience with at least one Systems Development Lifecycle Management methodology.
