Internal Communications Advisor
Reporting to the Director of Global Communications of Finning International, this role supports the Director in delivering an integrated internal communications function. This role contributes to the execution of communications strategies to support Finning’s Global Strategic Priorities, Bold Goals, and regional Priority Value Drivers, with specific focus on employee awareness and engagement. The Communications Advisor works collaboratively with senior leaders, project managers and others across the business to provide guidance and where appropriate, tactical execution support in the implementation of programs and initiatives. The Communications Advisor is expected to be comfortable and confident working with colleagues at various levels of the organization, from peers to senior leaders and requires confidentiality, diplomacy, critical thinking, natural curiosity, collaboration, and compromise.
Major Job Functions:
- Communications planning related to project or initiative support (20%)
- Tactical execution, including content development (50%)
- Tracking, reporting and evaluation of strategies and tactics – (20%)
- Training and education of business partners – (10%)
Specific Skills:
- Journalism background or training and/or corporate writing experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with differing audiences, including excellent writing, verbal and listening skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, consistent organizational ability, and ability to deal with multiple deadlines and demands.
- Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze that information and create easy to consume content, ranging from presentations to rich multimedia materials including video and for intranet
- A strong customer-service orientation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.
- Demonstrate maturity and credibility when dealing with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent research, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Self-starter, able to work well as a member of a team and work independently with limited oversight.
- Natural curiosity, interest in learning and asking questions to expand knowledge.
- High integrity for the quality of work and how it is done, including completeness, and accuracy.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office packages (PowerPoint, Visio, Word, Excel), databases, SharePoint, website content management systems and email distribution systems, Adobe Creative Suite or knowledge of comparable graphics/desktop publishing software for internal production.
- Strong web and social media knowledge and aptitude.
Accountability:
- This role is accountable for the day-to-day implementation of communications strategies alongside the communications team, and where needed, both regionally, and when asked, globally, under the direction of the Director, Global Communications.
Education & Experience:
- University degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, business administration or a related field, with well-rounded experience in corporate communications, public relations, or marketing.
- 2 – 5 years of experience in implementing communications strategy in a large organization serving multiple stakeholders.
