Cambrian College’s Schools of Business and Information Technology; Creative Arts, Design, and Music; and Hospitality requires part-time Professors to teach within the Computer Systems Technology program beginning January 2020.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicants will teach in one or more of the following areas:
PowerShell (CET1014) – 4 hours/week – Students will gain an understanding of the basic concepts behind Windows PowerShell to run cmdlets and command-line utilities to Administer Windows-based servers and desktops. Students will also use providers to access external information and be able to write and run scripts from the Windows ISE to automate Windows systems using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) and Common Information Model (CIM) cmdlets and remoting. Students will also learn to automate most Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) tasks using PowerShell.
Identity/Windows Server 2016 (CET1019) – 4 hours/week – Students will install, create, manage, and maintain Active Directory. Students will be able to manage objects, groups, authentication, account policies, service accounts, group polices, and OUs in Active Directory using GUI and PowerShell. They will also backup, replicate, and clean the Active Directory Database and configure an Active Directory domain in a complex enterprise environment by deploying multi-domain and multi-forest infrastructures configuring trust and sites. This will include setting up a certificate services, federation services, web application proxy, and rights management services.
UNIX System Administration (CET2331) – 4 hours/week – Students will be introduced to the tasks required of a UNIX or Linux system administrator. The student will require a reasonable level of skill with the common UNIX commands and utilities to become familiar with most of the basic system administration tools and processes. The student will obtain a fundamental understanding of a UNIX-based operating system and will be taught to be comfortable with most aspects of UNIX systems administration. The student will be able to configure, manage, and support a UNIX network infrastructure. Skills learned will be through hands-on projects and assignments. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to independently solve problems quickly and completely.
Design Hybrid Cloud Solutions (CET1021) – 3 hours/week – Students will architect, budget, and manage secure public cloud environments. This hands-on, lab-oriented course stresses design, budgeting, and creation of cloud services for businesses and enterprises using various tools such as web portals and scripting languages.
Windows for IT Professionals (CET2321) – 4 hours/week – Students will acquire the skills and knowledge to address the implementation and desktop support needs of customers who are planning to deploy and support Microsoft® Windows® 10 in a variety of network operating system environments. Students cover local installations, configuration of core local services, and the general local management and maintenance of Windows 10. The focus is primarily on local scenarios, and some enterprise and cloud-integrated services are covered where appropriate. Students will assess customers’ needs to become knowledgeable personnel who can support Windows 10 desktops.
Three-year postsecondary diploma or degree, preferably in Computer Systems Technology. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application.)
Five years of relevant work experience in an enterprise IT role that involved designing and administering enterprise server experiences, as well as configuring and managing an enterprise network infrastructure.
Proven ability to provide leadership, to think critically, and to communicate effectively in a professional manner.
Ability to be an effective role model in the classroom.
Ability to utilize creative teaching approaches and current and emerging teaching and learning strategies to enhance student progress.
Possess good organizational skills and sound computer software skills.
Ability to function within a team environment.
Assets / Preferred
Previous teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
