We Are:

The Pet Cancer Fund is a Vancouver-based organization whose mission is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer.

Estimates suggest the number of dogs and cats developing cancer every year reaches 12 million; roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.

More needs to be done and as we set out to build a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help our furry friends, we need experienced senior HR professionals to help in the administration of our organization.

That’s where and how you can help us.

The Position:

As our volunteer Senior Recruitment Specialist you will help the HR Recruitment Co-Lead manage the organizations recruiting needs for a variety of senior level positions across the organization as well as provide support in medical recruitment.

Our volunteers come to us motivated by their love of animals and a willingness to offer their service in the hopes of making a difference. In exchange for their generosity, we want each to understand our commitment to them as a valuable member of our organization, and to help them recognize how important their role is to our mission.

Your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Co-Lead Recruitment and playing an active role in the recruitment process;
  • Posting volunteer ads online where applicable;
  • Screening resumes in collaboration with the Hiring Supervisor/Manager;
  • Making first contact with candidates and performing a first phone screen to shortlist applicants;
  • Supporting the maintenance of our shared organizational files;
  • Working with department leads to understand and anticipate recruiting needs.

About You:

We’re hoping to find that special person that not only loves animals, but one that recognizes how important their gift of service (of their knowledge and experience in Human Resources) would be to the many volunteers who will help us achieve our goals over the years to come.

Our preferred candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, preferably
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in recruitment with sourcing/headhunting capabilities
  • Experience in medical/healthcare recruitment
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on positive candidate experience
  • Professional in matters of ethics and confidentiality, and having excellent people skills are a must.
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of volunteer-led organizational challenges would be a “nice to have” addition to those attributes.

Footnotes:

  • This position can be done virtually from anywhere in Canada or the United States
  • Expectations regarding a time commitment would be in the range of 4-6 hours per week on average
  • We’d like this position to be filled and start as soon as we find the right candidate for the role
