The Toronto Western Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation is looking for a Registered Kinesiologist to fill a permanent full-time position.
Key responsibilities include the following: providing exercise prescription and supervision for cardiac patients with a variety of cardiac diagnoses (e.g., CABG, PCI, CHF, Congenital etc.), providing exercise prescription to patients with various co-morbidities (e.g., diabetes mellitus, arthritis, high functioning stroke, cancer, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS) in addition to cardiac ailments; working with an interdisciplinary team to provide optimal rehabilitation of the patients (e.g., RD’s, RN’s, Psychology, Pharmacy, MD’s); and providing patient education in a group setting as well as one on one in the areas of exercise physiology primarily in cardiac disease, but also in diabetes, arthritis, cancer, high functioning stroke, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS. Additionally, this position will be involved with fundraising initiatives (e.g., the Walk of Life) and UHN wide initiatives (e.g., promotion of heart month) as well as be involved in ongoing research studies, where necessary, and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Baccalaureate Degree in Kinesiology or Human Kinetics, or recognized equivalent
Master’s prepared candidates preferred.
Have experience in Cardiac Rehabilitation
3 years of practical and related experience
Strong communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Strong presentation skills
Accurate blood pressure monitoring skills required.
Ability to interpret ECG’s essential.
Ability to interpret graded exercise tests for the purpose of exercise prescription necessary.
Knowledge of and the ability to apply the guidelines developed by the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation and the American College of Sports Medicine required.
Certified Kinesiologist through Ontario Kinesiology Association
American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist Certification
American College of Sports Medicine Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist and/or Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certified Exercise Physiologist preferred
Member of Canadian Society of Cardiac Rehabilitation preferred
Minimum current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS-level C) required, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
