General Statement of position:

Practitioners will apply Early Child-Hood Learning programs. Practitioners will supervise groups of children, plan and implement programs from children ages 0 to 6 years. Practitioners will create lesson plans, arts, & crafts, and organize children activities throughout the day. Will supervise indoor/outdoor play, engage with children one-on-one, and teach a variety of approach to play and story learning, and Siksika Traditional Values. ECDLP[1]

Supervision Received:

Reports to the Preventative Social Services Director.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment
  • Promoting the safety, security and well-being of children, families and other members of the community
  • Accommodate children of different ages, these Practitioners must be prepared to use strategies that create harmony within the group
  • Practitioners in child care centers supervise groups of children
  • Create lesson plans and organize activities throughout the day. Participate and in community planning tables to ensure that families and children have the benefit of comprehensive, coordinated services
  • Maintain program records. Monitor and report program progress and results
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor play, engage with children one-on-one, and teach a variety of basic skills
  • Assess parenting skills and help people to build physical and emotional caring abilities through a range of practical activities
  • Enhance parents' understanding of different learning and Siksika cultural play strategies
  • Coach, mentor and motivate families to understand the benefits of relevant activities and Healthy Child Development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • CPR Training
  • Vulnerable Sector Check, Criminal Records Check, and SIMS Check

Education and Experience:

  • Early Child Hood Practitioner (Level 2 or 3) or related educational field
  • Class 4 driver’s license or willing to upgrade within the first month of employment
  • Diploma in the Early Childhood Educator Level 2 or 3
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and conducting regular in-home visits
  • 2 years’ experience in facilitating groups (Effective presentation, communication, and group facilitation skills)

Work Environment:

This position experiences normal office conditions and is located at the Siksika Family Services Corporation office in Siksika. This is a front line position requiring face to face meetings with Siksika Nation member clients; and the individual is expected to maintain professional conduct during office hours and represent a positive image within the community at all times.
