Senior/Intermediate Interior Designer and AutoCAD Technician

Who we are:

Ann Johnston Design Consultants is a full service, acclaimed, interior design firm located in the heart of Toronto’s Designer’s Walk district. Ann Johnston is admired for creating sophisticated and timeless environments combining understated colours, refined finishes and beautiful textures. Ann’s commissions include custom residential interiors both locally and internationally. Recent projects include luxury interiors in Toronto completing custom homes in Rosedale, Forest Hill, and Lawrence Park. As well as cottages in Muskoka and Georgian Bay, and international work in the Bahamas, Bermuda, Florida and Cape Cod.

We are seeking a candidate with a breadth of expertise to help design homes of exceptional quality. We are offering a full-time position for a senior/intermediate interior designer and Technician with experience in residential interiors and design technology. Applicants should be highly organized, detail oriented, team and self-motivators who are flexible enough to work on and oversee a variety of projects concurrently.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Develop high quality drawings from concept to final design in AutoCAD - Drafting of furniture plans, interior elevations, millwork drawings, millwork sections, details, reflected ceiling plans, tender packages etc.
  • Working with principle and design team to develop design concepts
  • Assisting principle with selection of furniture, materials, fixtures and finishes
  • Preparing client presentations, drawings and renderings
  • Field surveying of client spaces
  • Attending project meetings and providing documentation support
  • Managing project installations
  • Managing both client and vendor relationships
  • Overseeing client projects from start to finish and ensuring adherence to deadlines
  • Maintaining delivery schedules and troubleshooting when necessary
  • Reviewing all client documentation and communication for accuracy and clarity
  • Maintaining weekly status reports and updating Principle and design team

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a 3-year college diploma in interior design
  • A minimum of 3 years working in a similar role or in an interior design office
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, SketchUp, Revit, Rhino is preferred
  • Ability to 3d model and produce renderings quickly
  • Knowledge of interior design principles and practices, codes and standards, finish and material science, specifications and interior construction techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task several ongoing urgent items at the same time, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and with a team, team members may be remote
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong ability to be detail oriented, especially when working with numbers
  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, can-do attitude
  • Knowledge of scale and furnishings
  • Excellent colour, pattern, texture and material finish sense

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $30.00 to $50.00 /hour

  • Interior Design: 5 years (Preferred)
