Under the direction of the Director of Global Supply, this role is responsible for the inventory planning, sourcing and procurement of produce for Lakeside Produce Inc., within assigned commodities. Pivotal to the sales process, this role assists the Director of Supply with sources and procures assigned commodities for fulfillment of client contracts and orders, manages available inventory to balance demand, identifies discrepancies and resolves order issues. This individual is responsible for monitoring and forecasting Grower/Contract product. Ultimately, the Associate Director of Supply will continuously strive to meet, and supply customer demands by obtaining lean pricing and top-quality produce that ensures customer satisfaction. The Associate Director of Supply also provides guidance to Commodity Planners as they develop in their roles.

Main Duties

Plan, organize and evaluate the supply activities.
Responsible for procuring commodities to meet company targets and client demand throughout the growing season.
Source suppliers, negotiate price, follow through on commitments and advise others of changes.
Develop supply policies and procedures and control department budget.
Identify vendors of materials, equipment or supplies.
Evaluate cost and quality of goods or services.
Negotiate sales price and conditions for each client account and maintain close contact with Account Executives on current market pricing, to maintain profitable margins for supply and sales.
Participate in the development of commodity specifications and in the development of new products.
Establish a clear understanding of quality specifications with each grower.
Maintain relationships, fair disposition and continuous communication with growers to provide feedback on performance or quality issues, obtain order status and advise other of changes while continuously delivering the Company’s guidelines.
Provide guidance and direction to Commodity Planners as required, to support their development in their role.
Review sales orders and committed targeted goals to ensure inventory levels are substantial to meet demand
Communicate frequently with Director of Supply to enable replenishment of stock levels.
Communicate through the Production Scheduler to ensure accuracy of the product being packed based on 2-day plans and daily requirements.
Stay current with factors impacting the procurement function and research/survey buying markets to source optimal suppliers based on evaluation of cost and quality of their produce.
Participate in the development of commodity specifications and in the development of new products.
Attend daily pricing and status calls, attend team and grower meetings and some out of town events as required.
Accurately enter information into commodity management system (FAMOUS) to enable inventory inquiries by Sales and fulfillment and shipment of products by Warehouse and Logistics and maintain reports with exceptional attention to detail.
Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress and work with Sales, Clients and Suppliers to resolve issues.
Immediately email order information and changes throughout the day to production, logistics, sales and accounting.

Requirements

5 - 7 years experience with a Master’s Degree OR 7 - 9 years experience with a Bachelor’s Degree OR 9+ years of relative experience 3 - 5 years of experience in a commodity purchasing role, including development of vendor agreements
Ability to physically inspect company property and assets
Considerable knowledge of laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices Demonstrated Leadership experience in a technical group. Effective Communications, Interpersonal and Organizational skills along with the ability to lead and motivate effective teams are keys to success in this role.
Ability to physically inspect company property and assets
Familiarity with Supply Chain Management (SCM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and/or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software
High-level Interpersonal skills
