We are currently looking for a Physical Literacy Specialist - Children's Services to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time position within the Association is at various locations throughout the City of Greater Sudbury and Markstay. Under the leadership of the Supervisor of Child Care, the Physical Literacy Specialist - Children’s Services Educator will prepare and deliver a high-quality educational programming for children from infancy to 12 years of age. The focus of the programming is on physical literacy, the promotion of wholesome health, and overall well-being. This job also ensures the overall health, safety and well-being of the children while adhering to YMCA's Policies, Procedures and Best Practices, that is grounded in the YMCA Mission, Vision and Values.

LOCATION: Sudbury

RATE OF PAY: $33,280 - $41,600 per year

HOURS: 40 per week

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or certificate in a recreational or physical education program
  • Professional working experience with children and youth (minimum of 6 months) preferably in a recreational program
  • Valid driver’s license (class G) and access to a vehicle considered an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid with Infant & Child CPR (Level C) * Recognized by the WSIB
  • Health Assessment from Medical Professional and Immunizations Record (or exemption) as recommended and approved by the local Medical Officer of Health
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills (French considered an asset)
  • Current and satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality educational recreational programming, by aligning with the YMCA’s National curriculum: YMCA Playing to Learn and ‘A Place to Connect’ as well as Healthy Childhood Development (high five®)
  • Implement and support the guidelines/regulations of the Ministry of Education’s Child Care & Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA), as well as all third party governing agencies such as DSSAB/Municipality, Public Health and Fire Department
  • Provide direct supervision of children to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Encourage children to develop knowledge and skills across a range of physical education
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with all families and community partners

**This position may be entitled to a Ministry of Education Wage Enhancement Grant (WEG) of up to an additional $2.00/hour for qualifying positions within a licensed child care program at the YMCA. The YMCA submits an application annually for all entitled positions. The WEG is approved by the local Municipality and Ministry of Education, and is a government initiative to enhance the wages of child care educators. The WEG is not guaranteed by the YMCA, and can be withdrawn by the Ministry of Education.
