Their product line includes access hatches, ladders, climbing rungs and other access related safety products for infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment, and construction projects across Canada.

Job Profile:

Our client is growing to the next level and we are looking for a Pre-Production Engineer (P.Eng.) to lead our client’s engineering team. This position will have a wide range of responsibilities including production drawings, workflow and production schedule operating at the company’s high standards.

This position will report directly to the General Manager.

As a member of the leadership team and guided by the vision, values and culture of the company, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overall responsibility for all engineering matters in the office and the plant
  • Oversee the preparation, review, modifications and approval of production drawings
  • Ensure design and load calculations meet project requirements
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineer
  • Prioritize workflow and projects in the engineering department
  • Ensure safety, quality, and cost with respect to all manufactured products
  • Technical guidance and troubleshooting to plant and office staff
  • Ensure products comply with federal, provincial and municipal standards
  • Build and implement a strategy to standardize production drawings, 2D and 3D models, bill of materials and load tables for access hatch product line
  • Special projects


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil
  • Professional Engineer designation (PEO)
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in metal and custom manufacturing facilities
  • Requirements analysis, design skills, project management, manufacturing methods and procedures, process improvement, technical understanding, documentation skills, supervision, and quality control
  • Extensive drafting and design experience using AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with sense of responsibility, ownership and accountability and ability to meet assigned deadlines


  • Experience in a CWB welding facility
  • Knowledge of the water/waste water and infrastructure industry
  • Industry experience in metal manufacturing or custom fabrication

o Ideally – have worked previously as a metal detailer, drafter or designer
