Job Summary

The Specialist Solution and System Integration is responsible for the successful deployment of advanced infrastructure, telecom, Internet, Industrial IoT, software development, applications and technology solutions, systems and services. The Specialist ensures that team members and projects meet all business requirements, and contributes to the global evolution of CN’s I&T. The Specialist plays a key role in the team, ensuring that the technology delivered is secure, reliable, available, resilient, performant and aligned with safety standards as per business requirements.

Main Responsibilities
Integration
Engage with customers to capture requirements
Translate technology solution architecture into technical or software development standards and specifications
Establish lab test plans, conduct tests and log results
Based on blueprint and test results in the lab, create a detailed/functional solution that meets business requirements and record them in the log book
Establish deployment/migration strategy and guide project team and operations
Travel to visit field sites and inspect installations, as required
Guide other integrators and work with them to address potential and current problems
Coordinate installation with technicians in the field and the owner while taking into account maintenance windows
Determine appropriate solution for support issues during project migration or deployment through root cause and impact analysis
Lead transition-to-core operations: update documentation, systems, training and presentation
Define and ensure adherence to engineering and configuration standards
Implement and ensure compliance with all appropriate CN I&T standards (e.g., security, architecture, project delivery methods, SOX, telecom, software engineering, etc.)
Engage external providers and work with business planning, supply management and legal teams in the context of procuring delivery and/or support services for new or existing services
Manage the roadmap (hardware and software) with the vendor based on CN strategy and I&T technology needs
Estimate overall solution costs and share information with project managers and stakeholders
Create technical diagrams and documentation for the solution
Follow the change and release management processes by initiating change controls and executing cut-over plans.

Technology and Infrastructure

Create telecom or systems integration documentation (including build books)
Identify the degree of re-use of existing infrastructure and capacity versus the need for expansion
Assist A&Q (Assessment and Qualification) in providing labour and material estimates for day-to-day requests.
Requirements
Experience
5 to 10 years’ relevant work experience
Minimum 7 years’ experience in a software development, telecom manufacturing, management or service provider environment
Minimum 5 years’ relevant technical experience (specialty) in complex detailed design and solution integration
Experience designing, configuring and deploying telecom systems
Proven experience delivering technology projects involving multiple parties
Proven experience with IP protocols and technologies.

Routing and Switching

Experience in design and implementation of LAN/WAN solutions.

Data Centre

Experience with Cisco data centre technologies: Cisco Nexus (N9K, N7K, N5K, N2K, FabricPath, Spine and Leaf, VxLAN, QOS queuing on Nexus platforms and MPLS on Nexus)
Experience with ASR platforms: ASR1K ASR920 ME3600
Experience with LAN/WAN, data centre, edge and core platforms for business/industrial enterprises and service providers (Nexus, ISR, ASR1K, ME3600, 3850/3650, IE3000/4000, CGR2010, 2960+, etc.)
Experience with PoE/PoE+.

Tools and systems management

Experience in design, automation and deployment of telecom systems monitoring solutions
Experience in KPIs and dashboard management.

Automation

Experience developing automation in a telecom environment in one or more of the following areas: network provisioning, network management, policy compliance, quality check, reporting, testing and troubleshooting
Experience with automation frameworks, development environments and technologies related to networking: Python scripting, Ansible and Git
Experience with Agile methodology
Experience with Micro Focus network automation and Selenium (asset)
Experience with Red Hat OpenStack (asset)
Experience with NFV and SDN (asset).
Education/Certification/Designation
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field of study or equivalent work experience

Core Network

Expertise in MPLS (LDP, RSVP-TE), MP-BGP and QoS
Deep knowledge of IP routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, ISIS) and redistribution between routing protocols on different vendor platforms
Expertise in transmission technologies (fibre, copper, microwave)

Routing and Switching

Deep knowledge of IP routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, ISIS) and redistribution between routing protocols on different vendor platforms
Basic knowledge of L2 topologies and deployment: LAN extensions, STP and native VLANs
Basic understanding of MPLS networking (LDP, MP-BGP)
Good knowledge of transmission technologies (fibre, copper, wireless)
Extensive knowledge of IP network ecosystem: DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, load Data Centre
Expertise in design and implementation of LAN/WAN end-to-end solutions
Routing protocols expertise: BGP, IS-IS, EIGRP, etc.
Expertise in data centre automation (integration with VM, storage, firewall, IPAM, etc.)
Expertise in security: zoning, VLAN, VPRN, IPS/IDS, etc.
Expertise in switching technologies and related security: Spanning Tree, LAN security, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, broadcast and multicast
Expertise in QoS: marking, queuing, shaping, policing, etc.
Expertise in PacketShaping BlueCoat products (asset)
Expertise in WAN Acceleration Riverbed products (asset)
Knowledge of structured cabling for data centre: harness, EMF and fibre trunk (asset).

Tools and systems management

Expertise in tapping and aggregation technologies: Network Critical, GigaMon, etc.
Knowledge in reporting and analytics solutions: Tableau, PowerBI, Business Objects, etc.
Basic knowledge of MIBs and object IDs
Knowledge of SNMP v1/v2, v3 and Syslog
Knowledge of NetFlow, IPFIX and IP SLA
Knowledge of MicroFocus (HPe) platforms: NMMi, OMi (asset)
Trained in telecom service delivery and management frameworks: ITIL and TMF (asset).

Automation

Good knowledge of data models and API communications
Understanding of data centre switching, edge routing and cloud networking
Understanding of hypervisor virtualization infrastructure (VMWare).
Strong knowledge of Python, Git and Ansible
